Gyukatsu restaurant near Ajou University booked on Naver: Gyuen-dang
In short
Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded, grilled beef cutlet) Japanese restaurant on basement level 1 of Avenue France in Gwanggyo, Suwon. After booking through Naver Reservation for a weekend lunch, the writer ordered the sirloin gyukatsu at 19,000 won and the tenderloin gyukatsu at 24,000 won, then seared each slice 10 to 20 seconds per side on a personal grill topped with Isigny salted butter. The cuts were large and the portions generous, making Gyuen-dang a confirmed repeat visit.

My own personal repeat spot!! I went to Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch (규엔당 아브뉴프랑 광교점) again!! The meat here just melts in your mouth and is so good that I keep going back haha. It's famous as a gyukatsu spot near Ajou University... if I were an Ajou student I'd eat here once a week.

You absolutely . must . order . the gyukatsu !!!!!!!!!!!! It's genuinely, genuinely delicious. The other menu items are probably good too, but I always order gyukatsu. If there are two of you, definitely order both the tenderloin gyukatsu and sirloin gyukatsu and share!! Here's what we ordered haha

- Tenderloin gyukatsu - ₩24,000
Booking a weekend lunch on Naver: was there a wait?
I visited after booking through Naver Reservation! It's great being able to eat without waiting. On weekends there's sometimes a wait — the day I went, I noticed 3 parties waiting when I left.

I had booked ahead, so I sat at my reserved seat!

The place was already packed. Probably because it was weekend lunchtime!! The seating layout seems great for families. There are also tables for solo diners, so eating alone here is totally doable!!

And once you sit down, there's a guide at the table showing how to enjoy the gyukatsu and omurice properly. Reading the guide made me even hungrier.

Right as the food was about to come out, they lit up the personal charcoal grill!! Yay haha

What comes with the gyukatsu set, plus Isigny salted butter
The gyukatsu finally arrived!! Aside from the food itself, the rice is plated so neatly and prettily, which I love haha. On the left is the tenderloin gyukatsu, on the right the sirloin gyukatsu!

The side dishes are also well put together. Wasabi, salt, gyukatsu sauce, clear broth soup, rice, pickled radish, salad. And the most important thing for grilling gyukatsu — butter!!! 🧈 It all comes out like this.

The butter is a cup of Isigny salted butter! I heard it's French butter.

The marbling on the meat is genuinely no joke. At other franchise gyukatsu places the portion isn't usually that big, but here the cuts are big and generous, which is so touching. It's such a great option for lunch in Gwanggyo.

A shot of the neatly plated rice too haha

How to grill gyukatsu: 10 to 20 seconds per side
Once the grill heats up, put the butter on!! Then grill each side for about 10-20 seconds. The key is you don't need to cook it all the way through — just give the outside a touch of that grilled aroma. That's only possible because it's beef and very fresh meat!!

This is the tenderloin gyukatsu being grilled. The breading is fried very thinly on the outside, so it's nice and crispy — so delicious.

Once just the outside is cooked, you can eat it right away!! It's not chewy at all — it melts the moment it hits your mouth.

Juicy, crispy gyukatsu topped with wasabi is a direct route to happiness. And the wasabi isn't the fake clay-like kind — it's good wasabi, so even piling it on doesn't sting your nose much, and it's delicious haha.

I grilled and ate every last piece of meat without leaving anything behind. I basically ate like a food fighter lolol
That's the end of my review of the super delicious Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch!! My intent to return next time is 10000000% haha
