Bandalseom butcher's restaurant lunch galbitang in Ansan: Cheongnyuok
In short
Cheongnyuok is a butcher's restaurant on Bandalseom island in Ansan, Gyeonggi, selling beef and pork belly along with lunch dishes. The galbitang (short rib soup) at Cheongnyuok came loaded with meat in a clear yet rich broth, served with a tightly packed bowl of rice, and one bowl was filling on its own. Cheongnyuok also sells Chuseok meat gift sets in one corner of the shop, so a lunch stop doubles as holiday gift shopping.

Cheongnyuok
Cheongnyuok, a Bandalseom meat restaurant that serves lunch dishes too
I was out on Bandalseom island and stopped by Cheongnyuok for lunch. Cheongnyuok sells beef and pork belly and is known as a great meat spot, but it turns out they also have lunch dishes, so it's a solid choice for a filling meal in the middle of the day! Coming back in the evening to grill meat sounds great too, but that day I wanted something warm with broth, so I ordered the galbitang (short rib soup).

Inside Cheongnyuok: a wide hall for family meals and group dinners
Cheongnyuok, a meat restaurant on Bandalseom. The exterior and signage catch your eye right away.
Walking in, the interior was bigger and more comfortable than I expected, which made a great first impression. The overall look was clean but also had a touch of luxury, so it felt a bit different from a typical Korean BBQ spot. The tables were spaced generously too, so the meal never felt cramped. Given the size, it's a good place for a family meal, and it would also work well for group gatherings or a work dinner. It felt especially suited to a relaxed family outing or a night of grilling meat with coworkers.

Chuseok meat gift sets on sale at Cheongnyuok
Looking around the store, I noticed they also sell meat gift sets for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). If you're wondering what to give family or friends ahead of the holiday, a hanwoo (Korean beef) or meat gift set isn't a bad idea at all. Food gifts are practical since the recipients can actually use them, and everyone in the family can enjoy them together during the holiday. At Cheongnyuok you can have a meal and browse holiday meat gift sets at the same time!

Cheongnyuok's menu, self-serve bar and banchan
Cheongnyuok's menu board. They sell beef and pork belly along with lunch dishes! I ordered the galbitang.

There's also a self-serve bar for customers who order meat. You can take as much lettuce, onion, chili, and ssamjang as you need.
The banchan (side dishes) included spicy seasoned chili, salted squid, marinated crab, and napa cabbage kimchi! A great match for a soup dish like galbitang.

How was the galbitang at Cheongnyuok — meat portion and broth?
The galbitang arrived. The first thing that caught my eye was how generous the meat portion was. Sometimes galbitang has plenty of broth but skimps on meat, but Cheongnyuok's version was loaded with meat, filling just to look at. It was fun picking the meat off the bones with a spoon, and it was tender enough to pair perfectly with rice. The portion was generous for a lunch meal, so I left completely full.

What I liked most, personally, was the broth. It had that deep, rich flavor characteristic of galbitang, the kind that makes you want to pour it over rice. Even though it's a clear broth, it wasn't bland at all — the deep flavor drawn out from the meat kept me spooning it up again and again. Between the meat and the rich broth, I left full and warm, and felt like galbitang was a great pick for lunch.

And the rice comes packed in tight! Even one bowl on its own is filling.

In short: is Cheongnyuok's lunch galbitang worth it?
This time I visited for lunch and tried the galbitang, and I left satisfied — the meat was generous and the broth was rich. One bowl was enough to fill me up, so it worked great as a lunch dish. Next time I'd love to come back and grill some beef or pork belly. If you're looking for a place on Bandalseom in Ansan with good meat, a filling meal, and a spacious, upscale space all in one, I'd recommend Cheongnyuok. And if you're shopping for a meat gift set ahead of Chuseok, it's worth browsing here too!
