There are so many cafés in Jeongja-dong, but that actually makes picking one harder. Instead of somewhere you rush through a coffee and leave, I wanted a place with good bread or dessert, comfortable seats to chat in, and room to stick around a while.

This time I visited Café Meomureum in Jangan-gu, Jeongja-dong, Suwon. 'Meomureum' literally means 'to stay,' and true to the name, once I got there it really did feel less like a quick stop and more like a place made for lingering.

Where Café Meomureum is and what it feels like inside

Café Meomureum is on the 2nd floor of Dongsin Complex Mall, 226 Jangan-ro, Jangan-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea.

Entrance to Café Meomureum on the 2nd floor of Dongsin Complex Mall

It's a café inside an apartment complex mall, but stepping in, the space was bigger and the atmosphere nicer than I expected. What I liked most was how it mixed a retro feel with a clean, tidy look.

It wasn't cold and generic like a lot of trendy cafés these days, but it also wasn't like an old neighborhood café. With the warm lighting and calm mood, sitting down with a coffee made me want to slow down a bit, if that makes sense.

Personally I love cafés like this. Not the kind that look pretty in photos but have uncomfortable chairs — an actually comfortable place to sit. Café Meomureum was closer to that.

What's on the menu at Café Meomureum?

The menu was more varied than I expected. Along with coffee, there's non-coffee, tea, smoothies, and ades depending on your taste, plus bakery items and desserts.

There were also blended teas and various ades, so drink options were pretty wide.

Salt bread and apple pie with yuja tea and a strawberry banana smoothie

Order of salt bread, apple pie, yuja tea, and strawberry banana smoothie

We ordered salt bread + apple pie, and yuja tea (citron tea) + strawberry banana smoothie. You've got to have some bread at a café, right? haha

🥐 Salt bread

Salt bread is great to have with coffee or tea at a café. A solid choice if you like plain, not-too-sweet bread.

🥧 Apple pie

We also had the apple pie, which paired especially well with warm tea. Nice to have a sweet dessert and a cup of tea while chatting. It was sweet and moist — really good.

🍊 Yuja tea (citron tea)

I picked the yuja tea (citron tea). When you want something warm instead of coffee, yuja tea is always a safe bet. Warm and tangy — it honestly felt like drinking autumn.

🍓 Strawberry banana smoothie

The strawberry banana smoothie is also a good choice if you're visiting with kids. On days when coffee doesn't quite feel right, it's a plus that there are so many non-coffee options like this. It wasn't too sweet, and tasted like a healthy smoothie — I enjoyed it.

Solo study-style seats you can sit in for hours

Honestly, what I liked most about Café Meomureum wasn't the drinks — it was the space.

Table good for staying a long time at Café Meomureum

The store was clean but not too stiff, so it was easy to sit and relax. The tables also had decent spacing, so it seemed good whether you come with friends or family, or just want to spend time alone.

Solo study-room-style seating inside Café Meomureum

And further inside the café, there's a space set up like a solo study room. This was pretty impressive — honestly, having a space like this makes me feel like I should be focusing on something. haha

It seemed like a good fit for kids doing homework, people working on a laptop, or anyone wanting to study or read alone. So if you're looking for a café in Jeongja-dong not just for coffee but as a solo-work café / study café / quiet café / kid-friendly café, this one is worth a visit.

How much does it cost to book the room for a kids' birthday or parent meetup?

Café Meomureum actually takes reservations for birthday parties and small gatherings. They said it can be used for kids' birthday parties, elementary school friend meetups, mom meetups, parent meetups, study sessions, and small classes.

1-hour room booking: 50,000 won

  • Whole designated study room for 1 hour
  • Basic table setting
  • 2 americanos
  • Outside cake allowed
  • Extra drinks and desserts can be ordered

2-hour room booking: 120,000 won

  • Designated space for 2 hours
  • Basic table setting
  • Birthday decoration
  • 2 cheongyang cream pastas
  • 2 salt breads
  • 2 americanos
  • Outside cake allowed
  • Extra drinks and desserts can be ordered

When kids are throwing a birthday party or moms are meeting up, booking a space like this seems better than constantly worrying about seating at a regular café. It seems especially useful for elementary school kids' friend gatherings — eating, having cake, and chatting.
