Suwon café with big tables for diary decorating: Café Meomureum

Today I want to introduce a really cozy, atmospheric hidden café in Jeongja-dong, Suwon: Café Meomureum. True to its name (meomureum means "staying/lingering"), it's a wonderful space to escape the daily grind and quietly heal. Let me tell you all about the delicious desserts and real fresh fruit juices that made this visit so satisfying!

Is there parking at Café Meomureum?

There is a ground-level parking lot right in front of Dongsin Complex Mall where Café Meomureum is located, but the spaces are very limited relative to the size of the mall, so unless you're lucky, parking can be tough. I'd recommend visiting comfortably by public transit or on foot instead!

How to find Café Meomureum on the 2nd floor of Dongsin Complex Mall

First-time visitors might be a little thrown off when they step into the Dongsin Complex Mall building. The mall itself is a bit of a maze with lots of signs hanging around, so it can be tricky to spot the café at a glance. Let me show you how to avoid getting lost!

Face the entrance sign of Dongsin Complex Mall head-on and walk straight toward the building.

After walking a bit, you'll see a CU convenience store on the first floor.

You'll then spot the clean, simple 'Café Meomureum' sign.

Once you step inside the building, there are friendly directional signs pointing the way to Café Meomureum posted all around, so just follow them and you'll find it easily!

As is typical for an older mall building, there are quite a lot of stairs. If elevator access is difficult for you or you have trouble with stairs, it's worth keeping this in mind before you visit!

Climbing the stairs, you're greeted at the entrance by a door and interior with serious Instagram vibes.

Wide tables made for dakku (diary decorating)

Stepping inside Café Meomureum, the space is really well laid out, true to its name. There's everything from solo seats great for quietly reading a book or working alone, to large group tables where several people can chat together. Even though we visited on a weekend afternoon, it wasn't too crowded or noisy, so we got to enjoy our own quiet time — that was my favorite part.

We have a hobby of 'dakku' — decorating diaries — so we often go to cafés to work on our diaries. Café Meomureum has plenty of wide table space, making it the perfect environment to spread out diaries and stickers and enjoy dakku!

Looking at the menu, there was a solid lineup of drinks alongside delicious-looking bakery items and desserts. Apparently the ades are made with fruit syrup (cheong) rather than artificial syrup, so if you love ades, definitely keep that in mind!

Coffee gets a ₩1,000 discount if you order it takeout.

Honestly, we really wanted to try the Basque cheesecake, but since we visited late on a weekend afternoon, it was already sold out 🥲 If you want to try a popular item from the dessert lineup, I'd recommend heading over a bit earlier.

Bokja fresh fruit juice and strawberry banana smoothie

Our drinks and bread were plated and brought to our table directly by staff. They looked so appetizing I couldn't help but take pictures!

For drinks, we ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and a bokja (peach + plum) fresh fruit juice. The moment we took a sip, I immediately thought, 'ah, this is real fruit!' Instead of the usual artificial syrupy sweetness, it tasted rich and refreshing, like whole real fruit blended in. It's rare these days to find such high-quality fresh fruit juice at such a fair price — this place nailed both value and taste.

Salt bread, apple pie or homemade butter rice cake — which wins?

For bakery items, we ordered salt bread, apple pie, and homemade butter rice cake 🥐

We ended up moving seats midway through, so the salt bread cooled down a bit before we could eat it, which was a little disappointing. If we'd eaten it fresh and warm right when it came out, it probably would have been much crispier and more flavorful. Still, it had a clean, nutty taste that was solid and classic.

The apple pie was crispy on the outside and moist inside — that classic contrast done right. It was generously filled with apple filling and jam, so every bite had a burst of apple sweetness, which paired wonderfully with the drinks.

I never got to try butter rice cake back when it was trending all over social media, so I was curious, and finally gave it a go here at Café Meomureum! I usually love chewy textures, and this butter rice cake's texture was pure art.

Dipping the chewy rice cake into the sweet condensed milk that comes alongside it, the nuttiness and sweetness exploded together. My friend and I both declared, 'this is the best one!' and ranked it number one. You've got to try it!

Why Café Meomureum works with a child

Café Meomureum has thoughtfully prepared children's picture books and coloring materials, so parents visiting with young kids can hand them a coloring set or a book and enjoy a bit of relaxed coffee time themselves. It's a really nice café to bring kids to!

One corner of the café has drinking water available for guests, plus a quirky Moai statue tissue holder that added a bit of playful charm.

Just a note: the restroom is a shared one inside the mall. Check the door code posted at the café ahead of time, and be sure to bring your own tissue!

Café Meomureum: the verdict

Warm, atmospheric interior; a comfortable vibe that's not overly loud, great for quiet chats or journaling; plus thoughtful touches for kids (books and coloring supplies), along with carefully made fresh fruit juices and homemade butter rice cake — everything about this café was satisfying.
