Bucheon bakery on a Sunday at 1pm: Chamsae Bori Sikppang milk cream
In short
Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch is a chewy barley bread bakery on Gyeongin-ro in Sosa-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi. Arriving just after 1pm on a Sunday, the grain barley loaf was already sold out, so only the Daesang barley and rye barley loaves were left, along with a mascarpone milk cream (3,700 won) bought after a taste sample. On weekends, Chamsae Bori Sikppang is worth visiting around 10am rather than in the afternoon.

After Sunday lunch, I stopped by Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch just after 1pm.

I'd heard the bread sells out fast on weekends, so honestly I was a little nervous on the way over. What if everything's already gone? With that worry, I walked in…

Thankfully there were still a few loaves left, haha;;

Sunday at 1pm: which loaves were already sold out?
It was just past 1pm on a Sunday, and I got the feeling that if I'd shown up any later, my options would have shrunk even more. What I could still buy was the Daesang barley loaf and the rye barley loaf.

I was curious about the grain barley loaf too and wanted all three, but unfortunately it was already sold out, ugh. Still, with two kinds left, I picked one of each.
The in-store signage listed three kinds: Daesang barley, grain barley, and rye barley. It also mentioned details like a 70-hour low-temperature fermentation and 0% margarine, which I read naturally while choosing my bread. Since this Bucheon sikppang (loaf bread) spot centers around chewy barley bread rather than being a typical bakery, I was curious how each type would differ.

One taste sample and the mascarpone milk cream came home too

While I was browsing, a staff member kindly offered me a sample without any pressure. They answered all my questions patiently too, and the vibe never felt pushy about buying, so it was easy to take my time looking around.

I tried a piece of the sample bread, and the mascarpone milk cream served alongside it was delicious. I genuinely had zero plans to buy it… but after tasting it, I ended up adding it to my bag anyway, haha. The mascarpone milk cream was ₩3,700. A textbook example of a good sample, haha.

How is barley bread this soft?

Back home, I immediately tore open the Daesang barley loaf. Honestly, since it's made with barley, I assumed it would be a bit rougher or drier than regular sikppang. But it wasn't what I expected at all.

It was incredibly soft, the kind of texture that just goes down easily even eaten plain. I meant to have just one slice, but one turned into another… and I ended up demolishing 3 slices in one sitting, haha. I think that says enough about how it suited my taste without me having to explain further.

Rye barley loaf: the chewiest bite of the three
The rye barley loaf had a completely different feel. Seeds were dotted throughout the bread, and the first thing I noticed was a nutty flavor. If the Daesang barley loaf was the soft one that kept pulling me back for more, the rye barley loaf was the one with a chewier bite. To me, it tasted exactly nutty and wholesome.
Since the two felt so different, I was glad I bought one of each. Now I'm even more curious what the grain barley loaf I missed out on tastes like. Next time I'll go a bit earlier so I can try that one too.

What time should you go on a weekend?
If you're heading to Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch on a weekend especially, I'd recommend going a bit earlier rather than in the afternoon so you don't end up nervously wondering if everything's sold out like I did.
Tip! They recommended visiting around 10am :)
