Two stews on the menu, Songtan and Cheongwon, plus the add-on list
Cheongwon's budae-jjigae (army stew) comes in two styles: Songtan and Cheongwon. There was pork cutlet as a side dish, and add-ons included ham, sausage, beef brisket, glass noodles, cheese, and Shin Ramyeon. With so many add-ons, you could customize it however you liked.

Songtan budae-jjigae uses 1++ grade Korean beef mince for a deep broth — a classic, no-frills Songtan-style stew. Cheongwon budae-jjigae starts from the same Songtan base but adds beef brisket and cheongyang chili for a spicier kick. Ordering the stew gets you unlimited refills of rice and ramyeon noodles, though the stew itself is ordered by number of servings.

How to eat Cheongwon's budae-jjigae at its best
There was even a sign on how to enjoy the stew properly: order to your taste, and don't lift the lid until the staff stirs it for you! Taste the broth, add more stock if you like, then dig in with rice, ramyeon noodles, and the side dishes. That's it.

Takeout discount and how to get the free rolled egg
You get ₩2,000 off if you take the budae-jjigae to go, and if you visit before 11:30am or join the Naver receipt review event, they'll throw in a free rolled egg. Definitely worth joining the review event haha.

They said they only use 1++ grade Korean beef mince with domestic green onion and domestic onion. Fresh, healthy ingredients — makes you feel good about eating there.

What a weekend evening and the self-serve bar look like
This is the self-serve bar zone, stocked with rice, ramyeon noodles, and side dishes so you can help yourself as much as you want. It was pretty packed on a weekend evening — almost every table looked full, with lots of families around. Great for a family meal out or a date.

The basic side dishes were seasoned bean sprouts, stir-fried fish cake, and kimchi, and rice came out as a default at the start too.

Our order and first impressions of the Songtan budae-jjigae
Songtan budae-jjigae ₩11,000 x2, beef brisket ₩5,000, glass noodles ₩2,000

I'm not great with spicy food, and since the Songtan version has 1++ Korean beef mince in it, I went with that one. The food didn't take long to come out at all.
The stew arrives mostly cooked already, so you can dig right in once it's stirred up haha.

It was packed with ham and sausage, plus plenty of green onion, onion, and other ingredients. Even with beef mince in there, this was a lot of stuff for just the basic order.

So many types of ham and sausage in there, salty and savory, the broth was so good it made me want to mix it all over rice haha. Total rice-thief material!

Add beef brisket and glass noodles and you'll never reach the rice refills
Even the sausage alone was filling, but since Songtan budae-jjigae doesn't include the beef brisket that Cheongwon budae-jjigae has, I added it as an extra just to get my brisket fix lol. Ramyeon noodles are included too, but I love glass noodles so I ordered those separately as well. But with all these add-ons, we got so full we never once made it back to the rice and ramyeon refill bar lol.

The beef brisket was nice and chewy, pairing well with the stew. Adding brisket to the Songtan version seemed like a solid combo.

The rolled egg from the Naver review event
Here's the rolled egg we got from the review event — they even squeezed ketchup on it in the shape of 'Cheongwon Sikdang' haha. It looked fluffy and plump.

Layer upon layer of egg, so soft and delicious. Why don't they just sell this as a regular side dish?! You can only get it by visiting before 11:30am or joining the review event. The combo of budae-jjigae and rolled egg is just too good... I finished a whole bowl of rice for the first time in a while. I was seriously stuffed to bursting.
If you're looking for a good restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, give Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch a try — the free refills on rice and ramyeon noodles with every stew order make it great value!
