Hey everyone, it's Jerry.
Today's a genuinely precious review — a hidden gem of Yeosu travel, a real true local favorite that only insiders know about: Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market. Eating sashimi in Yeosu? I'm going here for the rest of my life.....
My satisfaction is seriously five point five quintillion stars ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
No more preamble, let's start

What is Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market on Sinwol-ro, Yeosu?
Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market is a takeout-focused sashimi shop right by the harbor on Sinwol-ro in Yeosu. The husband personally catches fresh, in-season seafood, and the wife sells it directly at the shop.
When you come to Yeosu, everyone wants to have at least a bite of sashimi, right? But when you actually go to a famous restaurant, prices are steep while the plate is loaded with side dishes (skidashi) and the actual sashimi portion is disappointingly small — I bet everyone's had that experience at least once. I also pounded the pavement this trip looking for a truly fresh, generous sashimi place, and I finally found this true hidden gem that locals in Yeosu talk about.
The fishing boats moored in front of Uchangho
The moment I arrived at Uchangho, the first thing that caught my eye was the fishing boats docked right in front of the shop. The store sits right at the harbor, with that unmistakable sea breeze — the second I saw the boats, I thought, 'ah, this place is legit!' and my trust shot up instantly!!

Stepping inside, it's a cozy, compact direct-sales shop! Instead of a fancy restaurant built around elaborate side dishes, it's a takeout-focused shop that's all about the fresh sashimi and seafood itself. Small but kept spotless, which made me trust it even more.

Why Uchangho is cheap: direct sales with no auction
The biggest reason Uchangho stands apart from other shops is its distribution structure. Most sashimi restaurants go through multiple layers of distributors or buy through auctions, which inevitably drives up the price.
At Uchangho, the husband catches in-season fish and seafood himself at sea, and instead of sending it to auction, the wife sells it directly at the shop! With zero middlemen, you get top-tier sashimi at the lowest prices anywhere in Yeosu.
Freshness rule: fish held more than 3 days goes to auction
They sell directly first, before the fish would go to the day's auction, and if any stock is left after 3 days, they send it straight to auction without hesitation. That means no matter when you visit, you're only ever getting the freshest, best-condition, 100% wild sashimi. There's a real reason behind that top-tier freshness.

Ordering wild flounder, 1kg for 40,000 won
Since I was also planning a barbecue, I ordered 1kg of flounder! And the price was ₩40,000... isn't that incredibly cheap for wild flounder...?
— Note that prices fluctuate a bit depending on the market rate!

Sliced from the tank the moment you order
Once you place your order at the shop, the owner's wife scoops the live fish straight out of the tank and slices it right there on the spot. Watching her skilled, precise hands work — she was so kind she kept waving off my thanks — the sashimi came together right in front of me, and honestly just watching made my mouth water.

Watching her calmly prep the sashimi, the wait wasn't boring at all, it was actually fun. Being able to watch it happen right in front of you makes it even more fun.

Eating the wild flounder sashimi at the accommodation: portion and taste
I took the freshly sliced sashimi back to the accommodation and laid it out — the glossy sheen on it made me gasp on sight.

Yes, this is 1kg of wild flounder. This might not be obvious in photos, but next to the thin-sliced pieces, they originally stacked it up in a tall, generous mound — it just got a bit squished during packing. The pile on the right is the stacked cuts. The portion is absolutely not small!!!!

Since it's 100% wild, in-season fish that's on a whole different level from farmed fish, the sweetness kept rising the more I chewed — a taste I'd never experienced before. I genuinely thought, so this is what real wild flounder tastes like.

Was wild flounder always this firm and this beautifully colored...

Ah... it's gorgeous. I want more already.

Writing this post, since I now know the taste, I'm literally wondering if I need to go back to Yeosu just to eat this again. Ugh...................... torture........

The moment it hit my mouth, that sharp, savory umami unique to sashimi combined with the firm texture... incredible. Not to mention the value for money — the quality itself was far better than big-name sashimi restaurants. Honestly might even beat omakase;

With thin slices mixed with thicker cuts for chewy texture, it never got boring to eat...

Even with the two of us grabbing two pieces at a time, it barely went down. The portion is genuinely generous..

Final verdict: is Uchangho worth it for sashimi takeout in Yeosu?
My friend and I are massive seafood lovers, and out of all the sashimi we've ever eaten, we both shouted that this was our best-ever flounder here at Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market. A true favorite I'll be revisiting every time I'm in Yeosu!
Honestly, spots like this genuine direct-sales market are the kind of real hidden gems only insiders can find, right? Being able to enjoy 100% wild, in-season sashimi at honest, no-markup prices made this the most satisfying part of my whole Yeosu trip@@@@@ From now on, whenever I'm in Yeosu, I'm 100% getting my sashimi takeout here! haha
If you want genuinely fresh, generous wild sashimi at a fair price instead of fancy side dishes, definitely stop by. If you're planning a Yeosu trip, I highly recommend this as a locally-recommended takeout spot!
