Suwon Korean BBQ couple's hanwoo set with bingsu: Yeongpo Hwa-ro

In short

Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) grill restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, where diners cook beef over charcoal at the table. A couple with colds ordered the hanwoo assorted set for two (300g) to try six cuts — sirloin, chuck flap, brisket point, top blade, deckle, and skirt — and got a free doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice) and old-style patbingsu (shaved ice) on the house. The beef quality and service impressed, though 300g may leave men wanting more.

Signature hanwoo assorted set at Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch

With the season changing, my partner and I both caught colds,, and figured we needed some meat to boost our immunity, so we headed to Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch, a well-known spot in Ingye-dong, for a hanwoo (Korean beef) assorted set to nurse ourselves back to health.

Easy parking & an upscale atmosphere

Private parking lot in front of the restaurant

No matter how good a restaurant is, if parking in Ingye-dong is a hassle it can make you hesitate to visit — but Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch has its own private lot, which made things so much easier.

Upscale interior with a chandelier

After parking comfortably and stepping inside, the interior turned out to be really upscale! I was surprised to see the chandelier.

Clean dining hall with private room spaces

The place is clean overall and has plenty of private rooms, so it would work well not just for a date but for family gatherings or a company year-end dinner too.

Tidy side dishes

We came for one reason: the hanwoo assorted set! As soon as we ordered, the side dishes were set up — from myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), which pairs perfectly with meat, to neat kimchi, seasoned lettuce, and various sauces, all presented cleanly and elegantly without being excessive.

What cuts come in the hanwoo set for two

Finally, the main event arrived — the hanwoo assorted set for two! This is the restaurant's signature way to enjoy hanwoo at good value, a 300g set where the cuts change slightly day to day. The marbling was so vivid and the color so fresh that just looking at it made me smile!

Today's set came with six varied cuts: sirloin, chuck flap, brisket point, top blade, deckle, and skirt. You grill the meat yourself over the charcoal fire, to your preferred doneness.

Complimentary doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice)

Oh, and even though we only ordered the hanwoo set, they gave us a complimentary doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice) — how did they know I was planning to order that anyway,, this doenjang sulbap ends up saving us later, by the way...

The deep flavor of each cut

We started with the clean, nutty sirloin and chuck flap first on the grill. They also put king oyster mushrooms and sweet pumpkin on there. The heat was strong, so the outside browned nicely while the inside stayed juicy in no time!

Honestly, the visuals were unreal..... why can I never get it to grill like this at home?

A fully grilled piece of sirloin

Wow, the texture just melted in my mouth, it was incredible.... the juices were locked in so well that the more I chewed, the more that clean, rich flavor came through 🥹❤️ I understood exactly why this place is known as a true Ingye-dong favorite, from the very first bite.

Eating hanwoo together with doenjang sulbap

And taking a bite with the complimentary doenjang sulbap — the rice was savory-spicy and the doenjang rich, and it paired perfectly with the beef... it was so good...

Brisket point and skirt on the grill

Next up were the brisket point and skirt. The brisket point had a slightly chewy, nutty texture that was fun to bite into!

Juicy grilled skirt steak

Ah, the skirt was truly,,, 'bursting with juice' is the right way to describe it... this was honestly the tastiest cut of all, haha.

Richly marbled top blade and deckle

Last up were top blade and deckle, the marbling champions of the set.. they were as rich and fatty as their dazzling marbling suggested haha.

Is 300g for two enough?

Toward the end, things got a bit rich and you might start to feel it, but at that point a spoonful of the spicy-savory doenjang sulbap from earlier, or wrapping the meat in myeongi namul, would get me right back into eating meat again. Honestly, it was really, really delicious, but 300g felt like a bit of a light portion, so men in particular might still be a little hungry.

So honestly, I did consider ordering more meat.

A touching finish — old-style patbingsu

Just as we were eating the last of the skirt and saying we were starting to feel a bit heavy, they brought out a complimentary old-style patbingsu (shaved ice)!!!! Such a thoughtful touch from this beloved Ingye-dong beef restaurant, Yeongpo Hwa-ro.

Old-style patbingsu topped with red beans and roasted grain powder

It was a classic old-style patbingsu, piled high with sweet red beans and nutty roasted grain powder over ice! Mixing it up and taking a cool bite washed away the slight richness from the beef, both in the mouth and the stomach, making for the perfect end to the meal.

Mixing the old-style patbingsu to finish the meal

From the quality of the hanwoo to the complimentary spicy doenjang sulbap and the refreshing old-style patbingsu, everything about Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch, a true Ingye-dong favorite, was on point! If you're looking for a proper hanwoo grill spot in Ingye-dong, don't hesitate to check it out 🤍
