Sushi for dinner after academy pickup in Buldang-dong

Every Tuesday and Thursday my niece comes to academy in our neighborhood, haha. Today I picked her up near her academy and we decided on sushi for dinner, since it's her favorite.

There are seriously so many academies around this Buldang-dong commercial strip. Out of all of them, I think this might be the best restaurant pick nearby.

Two hours of free parking and no break time at Ganghan Sushi

What's great about Ganghan Sushi... 2 hours of building parking, no break time!! Parking is tough around this area, so eating here and running errands with 2 hours of free parking is such a steal. Last year during Bbangbbang Day, I had lunch here, parked in the building's basement, and walked over to Bbangbbang Day. It's not far from City Hall, haha. I figured parking would be impossible around there during the festival...

Maybe because it's near the academy district, I've seen middle and high schoolers come for dinner with friends, or even eating alone. In our day we ate tteokbokki, but kids these days are on a different level ^^

What comes with every sushi order at Ganghan Sushi

When you order sushi at Ganghan Sushi, udon / seafood croquette / miso soup / aged kimchi all come as a set!! Usually a sushi set alone can feel a bit lacking, but with udon and seafood croquette too, one meal leaves you completely stuffed.

Why all three of us ordered Ganghan Special Sushi

The sushi lineup is simple, if you want it simple, which is great because there's nothing to agonize over. We went with Ganghan Special Sushi, the option between the regular Ganghan Sushi and the omakase sushi — all three of us ordered it. Honestly... when I eat out with my sister I never pick the menu. Just order whatever, get whatever, done, haha. Once my daughter's a bit older, we can just order her handmade pork cutlet while we eat sushi.

Bringing a baby to Ganghan Sushi: how the owner helped

My sister, my niece, and my daughter all crammed into one table, haha. Since it was dinner time, I brought my baby's food warmed up separately. And the owner was so kind. He tried to set up separate dishes and prepare food my baby could eat, but my baby can barely handle baby food yet so I had to decline, ㅠ_ㅠ. Still, this mom was so touched.

Seating at Ganghan Sushi, including easy solo tables

The interior is small but very clean. There are solo seats, 2-person seats, and 4-person seats. With quite a lot of 1-2 person seats, eating alone here wouldn't feel awkward at all.

The seafood croquette that keeps us coming back

Order a sushi set and they give you udon, seafood croquette, and miso soup, haha. Usually other places just give you udon with sushi, but giving you seafood croquette too?

Here's why I love Ganghan Sushi! This seafood croquette, haha. So good. Inside the croquette there's cabbage lining the bottom with sauce drizzled on top, and dipping the croquette in that sauce is amazing. My niece was munching away saying it was so good too.

Ah, a place that gives you aged kimchi too, the best... Sushi and aged kimchi, need I say more. Whoever came up with the sushi + aged kimchi combo — a true culinary genius.

A lot of places serve platters like this padded out with cheaper cuts, but not Ganghan Sushi, haha. They even give you tuna belly. That pale piece is tuna belly, right?

The shrimp sushi wrapped in gamtae (sweet laver) was great, the soy-marinated shrimp sushi was great, honestly everything was great, hahaha. Even feeding my baby her baby food in the middle of it all in a total frenzy, it was still delicious, hahaha. I'd be eating sushi and she'd start going ugh! ugh! if I got her food to her too slow, like I was about to choke, but hey — you're not the only one who's hungry, I'm hungry too!!!!

After all of us ate a proper hearty dinner, we went to a claw machine arcade near the building and pretended to try winning stuffed toys, hahaha. Our baby with her chubby little body, pants rolled up, pretending to play the claw machine, hahaha. My niece was so sweet looking after our baby too, love that. Getting to eat delicious sushi at Ganghan Sushi after a while made the day before the holiday even better, ㅎ_ㅎ.
