The basic side dish was a sweet and tangy cabbage pickle. I kept picking at it while waiting for the food, and it disappeared in no time .. ❤︎

I visited with my mom and sister and we ordered kai phrai, poo pad pong curry, and pad thai.

Pad thai, 15,000 won: the easiest way into Thai food

Pad thai, the dish they say you have to try at Thai Yami !!! ✨ I liked that it wasn't a choice between meat or shrimp — both come in — and the portion was bigger than I expected (very satisfying).

If it's your first time trying Thai food, this pad thai seemed like a great entry point ❤︎ It's not overly seasoned or intense — sweet and tangy with a mild savoriness, so pretty much anyone would enjoy it. The rice noodles were soft yet chewy, and the crunch of bean sprouts throughout gave it a great texture.

Signature kai phrai, 21,000 won: Thai fried chicken salad

Thai Yami's signature kai phrai (fried chicken salad) is apparently the only one of its kind in the country, so I was extra curious about it 👀

Kai phrai is fried chicken breast on top of fresh salad greens, onions, and cherry tomatoes. Since I ordered it as a main dish, the amount of chicken was pretty generous. The combo of crispy chicken and salad was great, and it felt lighter than I expected, which suited it even more. Something you could eat without guilt even while dieting 〰️ !!

Poo pad pong curry, 26,000 won: more spicy than sweet

The poo pad pong curry came with rice. The poo pad pong curry I've usually had at Thai restaurants tends to be soft and quite sweet, but Thai Yami's was noticeably spicier than expected. The curry's smooth, nutty flavor plus the spice really pulled you in ..!!!? It went so well with the rice that I kept reaching for more.

Who is Thai Yami in Daegu best for?

Thai Yami works well as a solid meal and also pairs nicely with drinks. If you're looking for a different kind of Gyodong restaurant or want to try good Thai food, I'd recommend a visit :)
