After my kid's swim class, she said she wanted savory grilled fish, so we headed straight here without a second thought.

This place is already well known as a top grilled fish spot in Suwon, thanks to its overwhelming size and the deep flavor of fish grilled straight over a wood-fired oven. From the spacious parking lot to a self-bar as generous as a full Korean course meal, let me walk you through everything that made this such a great spot for a family meal.

The restaurant sits in Tapdong, Gwonseon-gu, so it's very easy to reach even from Homaesil or Dangsu-dong.

The building itself is so massive and imposing that Suwon locals have probably spotted it while just driving by.

What really stood out was the parking lot — it's the largest of any restaurant in Suwon, on a completely different scale from anywhere else.

It's a huge relief not to worry about a full lot even during weekend peak hours. That said, expect about a 30-minute wait on weekend evenings around 6pm, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

Once you arrive, you can put your name down on Catch Table and comfortably wait your turn in the cafeteria-style waiting area.

Atmosphere and seating

Stepping inside, the clean, open interior immediately caught my eye. The windows are full floor-to-ceiling glass, so sitting by the window feels almost like a scenic, relaxing meal.

The tables are spaced really generously, so you can eat privately without feeling crowded by other diners. With everything from standalone 4-person tables to large group seating, I'd recommend this as a family gathering spot in Gwonseon-gu.

If you already know when you're visiting, you can also use Naver Reservation to skip the wait entirely and walk right in.

Thanks to the comfortable setting, we could enjoy the meal at ease even with a child along — living up to its reputation as a top grilled fish spot in Suwon.

Myeongpum jeongsik for ₩29,000: mackerel sashimi and wood-fired grilled fish

Unusual for such a large restaurant, the kitchen has an open layout, so you can see the wood-fired oven the moment you walk in.

Watching the fish grill right in front of you over the wood fire made me trust the food even more.

We ordered the myeongpum jeongsik (premium set), which comes generously packed with mackerel sashimi, grilled mackerel, grilled Atka mackerel, and stir-fried pork.

The set is normally ₩32,000, but you can currently get it for a more reasonable ₩29,000 with the ₩3,000 discount. The mackerel sashimi I was most curious about had a chewy texture and no fishy smell at all, so even first-timers could enjoy it.

The mackerel and Atka mackerel, grilled golden brown over the wood fire, were crispy outside and moist inside — piled onto warm rice, the savory flavor really exploded.

Getting to enjoy such a varied spread all at once really felt like the definitive version of Suwon's grilled fish scene.

Unlimited self-bar with japchae and seaweed soup

The self-bar at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda's Suwon flagship location is on a completely different level compared to other restaurants. Beyond free refills of basic side dishes, you can help yourself to what are basically main-course-level dishes, which makes the value and satisfaction both very high.

From glossy japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) to freshly made geotjeori (fresh kimchi), seasoned namul, and mung bean jelly salad, just looking at the side dish lineup was enough to fill me up.

The seaweed soup that comes standard had well-simmered seaweed with deep flavor and absolutely no fishy taste — I kept going back for more, thoroughly impressed.

Between the meal and the generous self-bar, we spent about an hour and a half enjoying a very satisfying, hearty meal.

With a spacious parking lot, a pleasant interior, and plenty of wood-fired grilled fish, I'd strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a Suwon grilled fish restaurant for a family meal.
