Suwon grilled fish restaurant, first grilled bakdae sole: Godeungeo
In short
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. On this fourth visit the usual grilled mackerel came with grilled bakdae (sole) for the first time, and the staff served two bakdae instead of one because the fish were small. With seaweed soup, sungnyung (scorched rice tea) and a free plate of jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork), a full bowl of rice vanished in minutes.

I'm back again for my regular grilled fish fix! Whenever I think of the best grilled fish spot in Suwon, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda comes to mind first. The parking lot here is huge, so you never have to worry about that.
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon menu: why we tried grilled bakdae today
This time at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, I ordered grilled mackerel and grilled bakdae (sole). I always order the grilled mackerel whenever I come, and I've tried the cutlassfish and the Spanish mackerel too — today's adventure was the bakdae, haha. So I ordered grilled mackerel + grilled bakdae. Let's take a look at the menu first ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

There's also the premium set, which lets you enjoy grilled fish, sashimi and bulgogi together — good for a special occasion, so keep that in mind.

They also have a variety of braised dishes, bulgogi, sashimi, and sushi.

This grilled fish spot in Suwon says it carefully selects fresh fish and grills each order right away, so the fish comes out crispy outside and moist inside! And it's all cooked over a wood fire.
Inside the Suwon restaurant: seating and space for family gatherings
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch has such a spacious layout that it's great for family gatherings or dining out!

This West Suwon favorite really has a huge interior—

—and every time I come, it's full of customers! Even on an early weekday evening it was busy, and it seems to always be busy whenever I visit. This is already my third or fourth visit. I also love that the place is always kept spotless.
Self-serve banchan bar, seaweed soup and the free jeyuk plate
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch has a self-serve bar! If there's a side dish you want that isn't already on your table, go grab it yourself from the bar! The self-serve bar was kept very clean too.

By the way, the seaweed soup here is genuinely delicious, haha. With sungnyung (scorched rice tea) added on top of the seaweed soup, it's a really generous spread.

And they give you a free taster portion of bulgogi! Compared to last time, today's tasted even better. Even though it's free, the quality and taste are both great!

Such a generous spread — the table practically groans under the weight of it! The mackerel alone is enough to finish a bowl of rice, but with the seaweed soup and side dishes all tasting so good too, the whole rice bowl disappeared in no time.

How did the grilled mackerel and grilled bakdae taste?
Grilled mackerel, grilled bakdae. Since today's bakdae was on the smaller side, they gave us two of them instead! Nice touch!

Let's try it with a squeeze of lemon juice~!

I have the grilled mackerel every time I come — for me, mackerel is the tastiest. I can confirm this is one of the best grilled fish spots in Suwon!

This was my first time trying grilled bakdae, so it was a fascinating experience...

They say it's the most popular fish here because it's rich and savory with plenty of oil, haha. It was moist and perfectly seasoned — really delicious!

But of course, my number one pick is still mackerel, haha. Since this is a mackerel specialist, ordering mackerel is a must~

And then the grilled bakdae — apparently it's a specialty fish known for its chewy texture and nutty flavor! The more you chew, the deeper the flavor gets!
