Kid-friendly beef restaurant near Mangpo Station, Suwon: Olheun Gogi

Today we decided to have dinner with family near Mangpo, close to the office, and since I'd heard there was a great beef restaurant there, we went to Olheun Gogi.

Parking is available for about 4 cars in front of the restaurant, and if it's full, you can park at Toya Plaza, which offers 2 hours of free parking support.

Living up to its reputation, even at 8pm on a weeknight the tables were completely full. There's also a separate room space, which seems great for company dinners or family gatherings.

Best side dish at Olheun Gogi: braised tuna

After ordering, the side dishes came out. A few bites of beef can get greasy, but paired with the side dishes, it went down easily.

And this one's the real MVP — the braised tuna had a soy sauce base with a spicy kick, exactly my taste, so I didn't even share it and ate the whole thing myself. 😆

Hanwoo yukhoe: nutty, with no gamey smell

Before the grill even got hot, the hanwoo yukhoe arrived.

It looked fresh just from appearance, and tasting it, it had no gamey smell at all, just savory and soft — a flavor that kept my chopsticks going back for more.

With the set menu, before the meat arrives, you can also add on a bottle of soju. And finally, the wagyu made its appearance!

Looking at the meat, the marbling was so beautifully layered that I wanted to throw it on the grill and dig in right away, but the staff came and grilled it for us themselves. When you're going with a kid, a place where staff grill the meat for you is truly the best — the absolute best.

The juices were still moist and alive, savory, and the texture was incredibly tender.

Blue crab and brisket doenjang stew, plus grillable cheese

It was tender with none of that typical chewy toughness of beef, so I thought it would be good to eat with a kid too — and sure enough, they ate it well 🤣 As a side, we also ordered the crab and brisket doenjang stew. Adding crab and brisket to the hearty doenjang stew you get at a BBQ place really changed up the flavor of the broth.

With the umami from the crab added in too, the broth was really rich and delicious. And then there was the grillable cheese that came with the set!

It came out grilled to a golden brown, so between bites of meat we'd pick up a piece of cheese too, and seeing my child enjoy it made me weirdly proud.

Is Olheun Gogi good for a family dinner with a child?

Visiting with family on a weeknight, eating wagyu, yukhoe, and even the grillable cheese my little one loves, it was a pretty satisfying evening. 😊 Especially since the meat was so tender, if you're a family who wants to eat beef with a kid, this table set is great for trying a bit of everything together.
