Suwon café with rooftop mountain views: Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters
In short
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is a large café on Haengridan-gil in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, where orders are taken in the basement and seating runs from the 2nd floor up to the 5th-floor rooftop. The order here was the patented coconut coffee and a Guatemala Indigua hand-drip, enjoyed at a 2nd-floor seat before a floor-by-floor look at the 4th-floor reading space and the rooftop. Because Haenggung-dong has few tall buildings, the rooftop's open view out to distant mountains was the most memorable part.

Today I'm bringing you a review of a café every Suwon local has heard of at least once — Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch (정지영커피로스터즈 행궁본점). You can't have a Suwon hotspot list without Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters~ Patented coconut coffee and a really striking space. Let's go!

Where is Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch, and where do you park?
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch sits at 42 Sinpung-ro, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, right on Haengridan-gil. Hours are Mon–Fri 11:00–21:00 and Sat–Sun 10:00–21:00, with the basement for ordering and the 2nd floor, 4th floor and rooftop as café seating. There's no parking lot, so you'll need a public lot, and it's a no-kids zone (middle school age and up only) with no elevator.
It's close to Hwaseong Haenggung Palace and the Suwon Museum of Art too, so it's an easy stop if you're already out wandering Haenggung-dong. We parked at the Jangan-dong public parking lot, which was just a 3-minute walk away — super convenient!
Why you order in the basement

To order coffee, you head down to the basement. Going down, a whole new space opens up!
Coffee goods and small gifts in the basement

Besides the ordering counter, there's clothing, props and goods on display, all for sale, so it was fun just to browse.

There was this atmospheric music playing, and isn't that old Apple monitor just adorable? I kind of want one as an interior piece..😍
Patented coconut coffee and hand-drip coffee
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters, a coffee spot known throughout Haenggung-dong, apparently has a patented coconut coffee~ Curious, so I picked one, and since I was in the mood for something clean, I went with the Guatemala Indigua hand-drip!
For dessert there were madeleines, rusks, cookies too,

and Basque cheesecake, lamington cake, a cake made with fresh seasonal figs, and a fruit sando (sandwich). So pretty! But we'd just eaten a huge meal so dessert would have to wait for next time...
The roasting room on the ground floor

You can't actually go into the ground floor, so I just captured what's visible from outside. Big coffee equipment and beans everywhere🧐

A café recognized by the Suwon Cultural Foundation for taste, tradition and character! One drink per person is required! After checking the no-kids-zone and no-outside-food rules, we headed up to the 2nd floor~
What the 2nd-floor café seating is like

The window seats are pretty, right? The sunlight comes in nicely and the mood is great, but it was a bit warm that day so we sat further inside!
Seating ranges from tables for 2 up to 6, and even though it was a Monday there were so many customers...?! I dodged around other guests to get these shots.

The coffee finally arrived (you pick it up yourself in the basement). Interestingly it came on a recycled paper tray~ It held everything steady, which felt more secure than carrying cups on a regular tray!
The coconut coffee I'd been looking forward to, and a cool hand-drip~

How the Guatemala Indigua hand-drip tastes
They gave us a tasting note along with it, which made it fun to sip while paying attention to the flavor. With a bit of acidity plus sweetness and a heavy aroma, this Guatemala hand-drip was clean and great after a meal. The flavor and aroma are on the subtle side, so it's better to drink it on its own rather than alongside dessert if you really want to taste it!

Was the coconut coffee worth it?
Next, the coconut coffee. It comes piled high with fluffy cream on top. Honestly I'm not a huge coconut cream fan so I don't usually order this kind of thing, but since it's Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters' signature menu item, I gave it a try.
How did it taste? Less of that heavy, flat coconut-milk taste than I expected, and the sweet, fluffy cream went really well with the coffee. Another plus is the portion size! You know how at other cafés a coconut cream latte comes in this tiny little cup? This one was nice and generous.
3rd floor: Jeong Ji-young Coffee Academy and restrooms

The 3rd floor has the Jeong Ji-young Coffee Academy and two women's restroom stalls. Check your receipt for the restroom code and the double-lock method~!
4th floor: music, books and a view

The 4th floor has a lot of group seating along with chairs and tables that are comfortable for reading. The windows are wide and the ceilings high, so it's also great for taking in the view. *Please keep conversations to your own table~
The 5th-floor rooftop view over Haenggung-dong

The rooftop view is great, right?! I think September and October will be the most popular months for it~ Haenggung-dong doesn't have many tall buildings so nothing blocks the view, and you can even see mountains way off in the distance~ Really lovely.
A café you have to visit when you come to Haenggung-dong in Suwon — highly recommend Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch~!
