Garosu-gil Chinese restaurant: small cream shrimp for two at Samsin

In short

Samsin Garosu-gil is a Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion Chinese restaurant on Garosu-gil near Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Two diners ordered à la carte at Samsin Garosu-gil — small Hokkaido milk cream shrimp (₩24,000), Taean loess potato jajangmyeon (₩10,000) and tebanaka meat jjamppong (₩15,000) — starting with honey-filled gonggalppang (puffed sesame bread) and ending with mango sherbet. Because the cream shrimp comes in a small size, two people could still try a fried dish and both noodle dishes without overordering.

I was heading to Jamwon Hangang Park for the first time in a while and was looking for somewhere nearby to grab lunch! And that's when I stumbled on a Chinese restaurant with an incredibly unusual menu lineup..✨ It was my first time at a fusion Chinese place, so I was so excited.

Inside Samsin Garosu-gil: 2F entrance, 3F dining hall

Samsin Garosu-gil is a newly opened fusion Chinese restaurant on Gangnam-daero 156-gil, on Garosu-gil near Sinsa Station. The entrance is on the 2nd floor, and we were shown up to the 3rd. The atmosphere hits you the second you see the exterior! Since it just opened in Sinsa, the interior has that brand-new feel all over it. Listening closely to the music playing in the store, it sounded like it was made in-house — the lyrics actually mention 'Samsin' ฅʕ•̫͡•ʔฅ

I was surprised by how the interior felt brand-new, almost renovated. A place with a proper concept. Every table and chair looks super comfortable, and the jade-colored furniture gives it such a fresh, nice feeling..🤍

There were even named private rooms. Would be great for a wedding invitation gathering or a friends' meetup. I think parents would find it fascinating too and love it. There really were a lot of reservation customers — book through Naver Reservation before you come!! They're also running an opening corkage-free event.

The tables are huge too, and all the tableware is gold and sparkly.

Even the water bottle sticks to the concept. Inside was what I'd guess was jasmine tea. It smelled fragrant and paired really well with the Chinese food. It was so good I kept drinking it.

Samsin Garosu-gil menu: courses from ₩25,000 per person

The menu at Samsin Garosu-gil is a Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion, and course meals start at ₩25,000 per person. The value is insane.

Every time I eat fusion food, I get so torn about what to order.. a Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion, no less. Reading the menu descriptions, it felt like nothing I'd ever eaten anywhere before!

What we ordered: gonggalppang and small Hokkaido milk cream shrimp

At Samsin Garosu-gil, they give you honey-filled gonggalppang (puffed sesame bread) as a pre-meal bread. There's sweet honey inside, and this alone was already so good. My friend loves gonggalppang, so it hit the spot.

Hokkaido milk cream shrimp, small size (₩24,000). At most Chinese restaurants, cream shrimp isn't sold in small portions, so when there are just two of you, you basically can't get it — but Samsin sells a small size too, which was such a relief..🤍 They pile a generous amount of savory milk cream on top of the sweet-and-sour yellow cream, and it looks as good as it tastes. They gave us so much milk cream it collapsed, hehe.

My friend tried the cream shrimp and said she wanted to try other fried dishes here too. That's how good this place is at frying..🤍

Eating it with the milk cream on top is genuinely a delicacy. I thought it'd be greasy, but there's a slightly tangy sauce and vegetables alongside it, so it's totally fine!

It's not that slippery plant-based cream — it's real savory milk cream, so it's genuinely delicious. The shrimp were plump too, so there's no way it could taste bad.

They take care of everything ahead of time, to the point where there's basically nothing left to ask for. That's such a great point for gatherings✨

Taean loess potato jajangmyeon, ₩10,000: how does the potato taste?

Taean loess potato jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) is ₩10,000. There were so many dishes I wanted to try, but still, when it's your first visit to a Chinese restaurant, you have to try jajangmyeon and jjamppong no matter what!!

A bowl of Taean loess potato jajangmyeon

I was curious how potato would even work in potato jajangmyeon..!! My personal take on the texture: it felt like a boiled potato that had been lightly grilled or fried?! It had that moister, thicker wedge-potato feel, and it paired so well with the jajangmyeon. How did the owner even come up with this recipe?!!!

Glossy, shiny jajangmyeon.. how could you not love it. Packed with onions too, and so tasty. The seasoning isn't harsh — it's mild and smooth.

Look how moist the noodles are! I'm someone who usually struggles to swallow Chinese-style noodles, chewing them forever in my mouth, but Samsin's noodles were genuinely moist and soft.. truly the perfect noodle.

The sauce soaked into the noodles so well that it was so delicious. And no stomach discomfort afterward either ლ(╹◡╹ლ) This was the best jajangmyeon I've had in a while. Genuinely, truly, one hundred and fifty percent;;

Tebanaka meat jjamppong, ₩15,000: topped with fried chicken wings

Tebanaka meat jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) is ₩15,000, made with a broth from chicken and beef. Jjamppong with chicken in it — so curious, right..!! The moment it arrived, a strong chicken broth aroma hit me.

Same moist Chinese-style noodles in the jjamppong! The broth is genuinely a work of art — you have to gulp down broth with every bite. It was so good the broth ran out early on..

This was my personal top pick, so I packed in lots of photos out of pure affection.. the topping portion is no joke too. Beef brisket, mushrooms, onions, fried chicken wings, and more! It's living up to the name 'meat jjamppong'.. and the meat wasn't tough — it was soft.

Fried chicken wing topping on the jjamppong

Chicken wings are my favorite part of the chicken, so fried chicken wings as a topping? That's a direct shot at my heart. Dip it all the way in the jjamppong broth and it's chewy-good.

Mango milk sherbet served for dessert

Mango sherbet for dessert: the Naver review event perk

If you join the Naver review event, Samsin Garosu-gil gives you mango ice cream as a service! The owner was so cute about it. Saying something like 'even one dessert should be worth it,' he cleared the whole table for us.

It had that high-milk-content sherbet feel. A soft, slightly crunchy mango milk sherbet. So perfect as a palate cleanser..🤍

Even the teaspoon was so cute. Little things like this make me happy too. The owner is genuinely dedicated to the concept, from the interior all the way down to the tableware.

Interior of Samsin Garosu-gil with lavish decor

Is Samsin Garosu-gil worth it for group dinners?

Samsin Garosu-gil has such a lavish, upscale interior that it's a treat for the eyes and the taste buds both. Highly recommend for company dinners or group gatherings. It was genuinely so delicious that I put all my sincerity and affection into this post. If you're in Gangnam, Sinsa, and looking for something unusual — if you want delicious but special Chinese food — I recommend giving Samsin a try🤍 I'm definitely going back again before the year is over..
