Busan Korean barbecue restaurant with gat kimchi: Geobugi Dongne
In short
Geobugi Dongne (거북이동네) Busan Namcheon Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Suyeong, Busan. I ordered aged ogyeopsal twice, pairing it with wasabi, curry powder, gat kimchi, pot rice, and soybean paste stew. Verdict: the thick, chewy ogyeopsal and pot rice were the standouts.

Aged meat and shabu-shabu right by Namcheon Station
When you're feeling down, isn't meat the answer? Haha. I finally visited Geobugi Dongne Namcheon, which I'd been curious about, and wow—it was seriously delicious!!
Geobugi Dongne (거북이동네) Busan Namcheon Branch specializes in aged meat and shabu-shabu, right in front of Exit 1 of Namcheon Station. Basically station-front convenience..♥ There isn't affiliated parking, so I recommend public transport! Haha. You can pay with Dongbaekjeon, too.
Order requirements and menu

Your first order must be at least 500g (5 servings), and you can mix items in minimum 200g portions. Additional orders start from 200g! There is a ₩5,000 table fee. Rather than setting out the usual side dishes, you pick them up yourself! I always think it's a shame when too many banchan (Korean side dishes) arrive and go uneaten, so I actually liked being able to take only what I wanted.
The tablet showed photos of every menu item, so it was easy to understand—and the prices are so reasonable!!!! The set menus are put together so well, too. ♥

The side dishes are varied, which is great, but the best thing is the pot rice!!! It isn't just a bowl of rice—it comes in a pot, and I love that. Please make sure you order it... >.<
Self-service bar and a family dining space
The self-service bar was handy because I could take as much as I wanted, haha. There was myeolchi-jeot, a fermented anchovy sauce that's great with meat, ssamjang, pickles, bean sprouts, and more... Personally, I really liked the corn salad! Haha.

And pricey wrap vegetables were unlimited..♥ Maybe because they serve shabu-shabu, they also had sujebi dough and rice-cake add-ons. The scallion salad was tasty too, so I went back for more.

They had high chairs and children's tableware ready, making it suitable for family meals.

I can totally see this being a great-value Namcheon-dong spot for group gatherings, family meals, and company dinners. There's even a playroom!! The restaurant was really spacious, which was nice.
Thick and chewy ogyeopsal

For the first order, we got five servings of ogyeopsal! It was more than I expected, hahaha. I usually prefer ogyeopsal over samgyeopsal, so it was an immediate pick! The open layout let us watch the staff slicing the meat, which I liked. The restaurant was clean overall, and the staff were kind too, haha.
Getting ready before the ogyeopsal. Wasabi, curry powder, sesame oil dipping sauce!! Onto the grill it goes... >.< That sizzling moment while the meat cooks is the most exciting..♥️ Ogyeopsal does splatter a little because of its fat, but it was manageable!!! I also loaded up on scallion salad, pickled onions, corn salad, and garlic, haha.

Glorious ogyeopsal ✨✨ It was noticeably thicker than regular pork belly and looked so appetizing. Even writing this now, I know how it tasted, so I'm getting hungry.. 🤤🤤
Crisp on the outside and moist inside. If you like pork skin, I absolutely recommend ogyeopsal! The thick meat had such a chewy bite, with a charm quite different from pork belly.

It was delicious even just dipped in salt sauce, and with scallion salad? What more can I say—such a combo >_<

And of course, I made wraps too.

I tried it with curry powder and with wasabi, and the wasabi was the best! The curry powder was great too, obviously >_< The thick ogyeopsal had pork skin that was chewy rather than tough, which gave it a different appeal from pork belly.

We ordered another five servings of ogyeopsal... >.< This ogyeopsal was seriously so good!!! I could see why they sell it in set menus too, haha.

Gat kimchi, pot rice, and soybean paste stew
Personally, my recommended pairing for ogyeopsal is gat kimchi, mustard-leaf kimchi! And pickled onions! You really have to try it with the gat kimchi... ><
We were going to stop after the meat, but then it was pot rice—how could we resist? So we ordered it right away. Pot rice takes about 15–20 minutes, so I recommend ordering it ahead while you're eating the meat! Haha. Look at that pot rice...♥ Can you see how glossy the grains are... This is crazy. Even the rice alone was so delicious ㅠㅠ hahaha.
We ordered the soybean paste stew without meat, and wow.. it was really delicious. It was full of tofu and vegetables, so every bite was fun. Yum yum. I definitely recommend the soybean paste stew and pot rice together.

I even finished the sungnyung, scorched-rice tea, perfectly.

They even had coffee and ice cream ready—perfect for dessert, haha. A restaurant that looks after you through dessert too.. so heartwarming!! Next time I need to try the pork belly, haha. Best value 👍👍
