I found Extra Mile while browsing Instagram. My husband already loves Italian food, and when he saw it, he said we should go sometime. The reviews for both the pasta and pizza were good, so we went in with high expectations.

A pizza interpretation of tacos

My husband and I love tacos, so we thought we had to try this one—and it captured Mexican flavors so well 🤓 Cilantro salsa and sour cream on pizza? Amazing,, At Extra Mile, an Italian restaurant in Gwangalli, even the pasta and pizza each have a point of difference from ordinary Italian food. The taco-style pizza is one example, and the potato pizza uses sliced potatoes and fried potato shreds rather than potato wedges.

Extra Mile was a Gwangalli Italian restaurant I wanted to revisit as soon as this visit was over 💓 Let me introduce it properly. It is a restaurant you will not regret choosing.

A cozy dining space near Gwangan Station

It is on the back street behind the Gwangalli Ssangyong Yega Apartments, and it is not too far from Gwangan Station, so it is easy to reach by subway. The restaurant is a remodeled ordinary house, creating a cozy, comfortable space for lunch or dinner. Every detail of the interior has been thoughtfully arranged, so I recommend this spot to anyone wondering where to go for a date 😙

There are also dajji (counter) seats where you can enjoy a meal alone. With cutlery, plates, and menus neatly set out in advance, the restaurant makes a very tidy impression.

There are tables for two and four, so couples can come by and families can visit too. I saw lots of couples with babies as well.

A half-and-half pizza choice

Pizza and pasta are Extra Mile's main offerings. If you order the Classic Combo for two, you can choose one pizza and one pasta. Best of all, choosing a half-and-half pizza costs absolutely no extra, so you can try two kinds of pizza.

While waiting for your order, you can color in the paper laid on the table with colored pencils ☺️ It felt like doing a coloring book again after a long time, and families visiting with children were having fun coloring together.

Once you are coloring, chatting, and having fun, the food comes out quickly. We ordered a half potato and birria pizza. It was a look that is hard to find elsewhere, so it immediately caught my eye.

How was the birria pizza?

The birria pizza reinterprets tacos as pizza. It really recreated Mexican flavors with Mexican-style slow-braised meat, onions, scallions, nachos, cilantro, and sour cream, and it was more than appealing and delicious even as a pizza.

Potato pizza topped with fried potato shreds

The potato pizza is made with Dubak potatoes from Gangwon-do, so you can tell care went into each ingredient. Since the fried potato shreds can fall off, I recommend picking up each slice to eat it.

Potato pizza is so common that everyone has probably tried it, but if you come to Extra Mile in Gwangalli and try this potato pizza, it feels refreshingly different.

Personally, the birria pizza was even tastier and more of a special treat 🍕 Add a little Tabasco to bring out its Mexican character and make the flavors pop, everyone.

Shrimp-rich bisque cream pasta

We ordered the bisque cream pasta, and it was absolutely packed with the deep richness of shrimp. Every bite brought that distinctive shrimp aroma and umami right through, and eating it with the gamtae (seaweed) on top was seriously delicious.

At first I thought, huh, there is not much sauce? But the pasta had absorbed plenty of it, and with the plump shrimp, the flavor was impressive. If the bisque pasta is this good, the other pastas must be delicious too—next time, I am trying the white ragù!

Before we knew it, we had of course cleared every last bit of pizza, and scraping up the remaining pasta sauce with the pizza crust made for such a satisfying meal. A new restaurant in Gwangalli that will satisfy you whenever you come for lunch or dinner—I strongly recommend it.
