Thai restaurant near Spark Land, Daegu: bar seat dinner at Thai Yami
In short
Thai Yami is a Thai restaurant on Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu, close to Gyodong and Dongseongno. Dinner at Thai Yami was ordered by tablet from the bar seats facing the open kitchen: pad thai (stir-fried rice noodles), kai phrai (fried chicken salad) and a draft beer. The bean-sprout-heavy pad thai and the cheese-topped kai phrai went so well together that the plates came back almost empty.

Where is Thai Yami in Daegu?
Thai Yami is a Thai restaurant at 105, 1F, 222 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu. It sits between Dongseongno and Gyodong, so it was easy to get to, and it's a good spot to combine with a trip to a Daegu Spark Land restaurant.
Craving something a little different from the usual Korean food or meat I normally eat, I went looking for a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant and ended up at 'Thai Yami.' From familiar dishes like pad thai to a range of other Thai food, you can try quite a bit in one visit — good to remember whenever a Dongseongno Thai food craving hits.
Having eaten there myself, each menu item had a distinct personality worth sharing with anyone looking for a meal that's a little different from usual. Today I'll walk through the atmosphere, menu, and taste of Thai Yami from my visit.

Before the full write-up, here's a quick highlight shot.
Thai Yami's red sign and storefront on Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil

Thai Yami, a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant, sits on the first floor of the building, and in the evening the lit-up sign made the location pretty visible from around the block. The entrance is full glass, with the Thai Yami logo and a cat character on the door giving it a casual feel. A separate menu board stands out front too, so you can glance at what's on offer before going in.

With the door left wide open, you could see the interior atmosphere a bit from outside, and it felt more approachable than expected — an easy place to walk into for a meal. It's also an exterior that stands out well if you're looking for a Daegu Spark Land restaurant or Dongseongno Thai food.
Inside Thai Yami: open kitchen and bar seats
Walking into Thai Yami, the space runs longer than expected — on one side, bar seats facing the open kitchen, and on the other, table seating good for groups.

The layout lets you see the kitchen clearly, so you naturally watch the food being prepared. The bar seats came pre-set with basic dishware and cups, which seemed good for solo dining or a light visit for two. When I visited, there were already quite a few diners, so the evening had a lively energy fitting for a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant.

Overall the mood was warm, centered on wood tones, with Thai Yami's signature character posters and pops of color keeping it from feeling too heavy — casual instead. It's a comfortable atmosphere for a quick meal, whether you're looking for a Dongseongno restaurant, Dongseongno Thai food, or even a date spot.

There's also a coat rack set up along one wall. Not having to drape jackets or bags over your chair makes for a more comfortable meal, and the rack keeps the seating area feeling tidier.
Thai Yami's menu, from pad thai to nasi goreng

Looking at Thai Yami's menu, there's a surprising range — from familiar Thai dishes like pad thai, nasi goreng, and pho to poo pad pong curry, kai phrai, and Korean beef shabu hot pot. There are quite a few options if you want to order several dishes to share at a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant. At lunch, ordering kai phrai with pad thai, or poo pad pong curry with pad thai, gets you a set discount, and in the evening there's a dinner set pairing kai phrai with a highball.

Beyond the mains, there are sides like spring rolls, Thai cheese fries, and mini kai phrai, plus draft beer, highballs, ade, and fresh-squeezed orange juice to pair with them. It looks good for a proper meal or just a light drink, giving plenty of choice depending on your mood when you're out looking for a Dongseongno restaurant or Daegu Spark Land restaurant.
Tablet ordering and the table setup at Thai Yami

At Thai Yami you order right from the table using a tablet. You can browse the menu at your own pace, which made the ordering process simple. The basic setup included a water cup, spoon, and chopsticks, plus a serving of crackers. True to a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant, everything from ordering to getting the meal underway was easy.
Draft beer to go with dinner

Before the food arrived, I ordered a draft beer first. It came in a chilled glass, so the first sip was clean, and the carbonation level was just right for pairing with Thai food. It was especially good between bites of dishes heavy on spice or sauce — a solid combo if you want a light drink with your meal at a Dongseongno restaurant.
Thai Yami's pad thai, piled with bean sprouts

The first thing I ordered at Thai Yami was the pad thai. A wide plate arrived generously loaded with stir-fried rice noodles and bean sprouts, with big shrimp, crushed peanuts, spicy seasoning, and lemon on the side — appetizing from the first look.

Bean sprouts were tucked generously between the noodles, adding crunch, and mixing in the nutty peanut powder made the flavor even richer. You could squeeze on a bit of lemon or add the spicy seasoning depending on your taste, so it stayed enjoyable to the last bite. It's an easy order if you're after Dongseongno Thai food, and a good dish to remember whenever pad thai comes to mind at a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant.
Kai phrai: crispy fried chicken and salad in one dish

Next up was Thai Yami's kai phrai. A wide plate came piled with crispy fried chicken, with plenty of vegetables and cherry tomatoes underneath — a more substantial-looking dish than expected. Cheese was grated generously over the top, with lemon served alongside.
The chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside, and eating it with the crunchy vegetables cut the greasiness despite being fried. Adding tomato and lemon here and there made it taste even fresher. The portion was generous enough to share among several people, and it paired well with the pad thai I'd already eaten. It's worth ordering if you're looking for a side dish to go with your meal at a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant, or want to try something different in Dongseongno Thai food.
A clean plate: how filling was dinner at Thai Yami?
From the pad thai to the kai phrai, the plates came back almost completely clean. Even though they were different dishes, they went so well together that switching back and forth cleared the plates quickly. The portions were generous and the flavors satisfying — this is the kind of place that comes to mind when you want a filling, different kind of meal at a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant.
Video: pad thai and kai phrai at Thai Yami
Since photos alone didn't quite capture it, I recorded video of the dishes too. The pad thai video shows the bean sprouts, rice noodles, shrimp, and peanut powder piled generously on one plate, and the kai phrai video gets a close look at the crispy fried chicken and salad topped with plenty of cheese. Both dishes come across even better in video in terms of portion and composition — worth a look before deciding what to order at Thai Yami, a Gyodong, Daegu restaurant.
Final verdict on Thai Yami
'Thai Yami' left me satisfied, from the familiar pad thai to the crispy kai phrai, each dish with its own distinct character. The space, with its open kitchen, bar seats, and table seating, suits solo dining, dates, and meals with friends alike, and tablet ordering made things easy to use. It's a good Gyodong, Daegu restaurant to visit whenever you want something different from the usual Korean food or meat, and if you're looking for somewhere to eat around Spark Land or Dongseongno, it's worth keeping in mind alongside other Daegu Spark Land restaurants, Dongseongno restaurants, and Dongseongno Thai food spots.
