Corkage-free makgeolli and gabrisal pork BBQ near Wangsimni: Pujutgan

In short

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom is a hot-plate Korean BBQ restaurant in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong, Seoul, five minutes on foot from Wangsimni Station Exit 10. The writer and a friend ordered two servings of raw pork belly plus gabrisal, had staff grill it all on the traditional cauldron-lid griddle, and topped it off with unlimited kimchi stew, bibim naengmyeon, japchae noodles and mul naengmyeon. Since the restaurant is corkage-free, bringing along a bottle of Boksoondoga makgeolli to drink with the meat made the meal even better.

Conditions for the unlimited stew, naengmyeon, noodles and nurungji

Notice for the unlimited stew, naengmyeon, noodles and nurungji service

If you order meat matching your party size, stew, naengmyeon (cold noodles), noodles, and nurungji (scorched rice) are all served unlimited. If you order less than the party size, only the stew is unlimited (applies to middle-school age and up). *In summer, the egg garnish is left off the naengmyeon as a food-safety precaution.

Just order meat according to your headcount and you get unlimited naengmyeon, stew, noodles, and nurungji! Eat your meat, have a bowl of naengmyeon, dig into stew and noodles, and finish off properly with nurungji — perfect for a work dinner, seriously perfect!!

Boksoondoga makgeolli brought in thanks to corkage-free policy

I brought along a bottle of Boksoondoga makgeolli, and since the place is corkage-free, you can bring your favorite drink and enjoy it with the meat — worth keeping in mind.

They only use grade 1 and 1+ pork! On top of that, staff carefully grill everything on the traditional cauldron-lid griddle for you, and as mentioned above, ordering meat by headcount gets you unlimited mul naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, japchae-guksu, nurungji, doenjang stew and kimchi stew — an insanely good value place.

Mushrooms and potatoes come as standard sides with the pork belly, and if you ask for more mushrooms or potatoes, they give you extra at no charge — Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom just keeps giving.

Mushrooms, kimchi, potatoes and onions all go on top of the big cauldron-lid griddle and cook in pork fat — just watching the pork belly turn golden brown makes me happy.

The meat quality is so good it's delicious on its own, and wrapped in lettuce it's great too!!

Dessert round: kimchi stew, bibim naengmyeon, japchae-guksu, mul naengmyeon

Between the standard doenjang stew or kimchi stew options, I went with kimchi stew — spicy and sharp, it was the perfect drinking snack.

The bibim naengmyeon, made with the restaurant's own special sauce and packed with icy shaved ice, spicy-sweet and perfect with pork belly!! The japchae-guksu also came in a huge portion with a clean broth, totally delicious. And a clean, refreshing mul naengmyeon to finish and cleanse the palate!

Good meat, friendly staff, unlimited naengmyeon and stew — Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom really gives it all, go check it out. 1F, Haengdang-ro 17-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
