Mulhoe with sashimi refill at sunset, Gangseo Busan: Suseong Susan
In short
Suseong Susan is a raw fish and seafood restaurant in Myeongji and Sinho-dong, Gangseo, Busan, known for mulhoe (spicy raw fish cold soup). Visiting on a weekday evening at 19:00, the writer ordered the three-kind mixed mulhoe and added an extra sashimi order, all served with rice, beef seaweed soup, six side dishes, and abalone. Street parking right in front and a view of the Nakdong River sunset made it a great summer evening meal spot.

I went to Suseong Susan in Myeongji, Busan, famous for its mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup), and had the three-kind mixed mulhoe. Eating mulhoe with all kinds of fresh live fish and crisp vegetables cools you down to your core — perfect for hot weather like this!
Parking is convenient since you can park right on the main road in front.

Where to park? Arriving on a weekday evening at 19:00
You can park like this, right on the main road in front of the restaurant. I arrived around 19:00 on a weekday and had plenty of room to park, plus the sunset was just starting to fall — a really beautiful scene.

Inside the restaurant and seating
Here's the interior. It was bigger than I expected inside — it can seat over 15 tables of four, and the tables are spaced well apart, so it feels quite comfortable. They also hand out disposable aprons in advance so food splashes don't get on your clothes.
It's a well-known local favorite that even the Gangseo-gu district office head has visited, where locals come for fresh mulhoe.

Ordering the three-kind mixed mulhoe
Today I picked the three-kind mixed mulhoe — a collaboration of fresh raw fish met with Suseong Susan's special sauce. It comes with rice, seaweed soup, and six side dishes as standard, so you can have a full meal easily!

Check out the other menu items on the kiosk too. You can choose your favorite raw fish like flounder, dab, or largehead hairtail, or go all in with the combo set like I did with all three kinds at once. I finished everything and then ordered extra sashimi on top, haha.

What does the full table look like?
This is how the three-kind mixed mulhoe comes out. The sashimi is served separately, plus rice, seaweed soup, six side dishes, and abalone, so it's a really generous, filling meal with great value for money. It had been a while since I'd had mulhoe, and honestly nothing beats it on a hot day~

Beef seaweed soup
The hot seaweed soup has beef in it, and it's perfect for cleansing your palate in rotation while eating the cold mulhoe! The beef seaweed soup is spicy-ish yet savory — that's the kick!

Side dishes, noodles, and abalone
There's a good variety of side dishes too — braised mushrooms, braised fish cake, braised black beans, and acorn jelly. Also, add the thin wheat noodles at the end after finishing the mulhoe and enjoy, and try the fresh abalone together with the vegetables.

Mixing the vegetables with the special sauce
Mix the crisp vegetables well with the special sauce. It's very refreshing even on its own, but eating it together with the sashimi gives you the best possible taste.

Here are the three kinds of sashimi served — just looking at how glossy they are tells you how fresh they must be~

The abalone is also pure white, proof of its freshness, and the bitter innards and teeth have already been removed, so you can just eat it right away.

The best order for eating mulhoe
Lay the mulhoe vegetables down first, then top them with each type of sashimi one by one and savor it that way. Rather than dumping in all the sashimi and mixing it all at once, savoring each piece one by one like this tasted even better.

Try combining the abalone with the mulhoe vegetables too. Abalone's taste can vary wildly depending on quality, but this seasonal abalone was clearly well managed at Suseong Susan, so the taste was fantastic.

I also tried piling rice with braised fish cake and mushrooms and eating it as a rice side dish.

Ordering extra sashimi
I ordered even more sashimi on top, and today I really ate a hearty, satisfying mulhoe meal.

Enjoyed the extra sashimi thoroughly too, nom nom

I'm planning to come back to Suseong Susan, the mulhoe restaurant in Myeongji, Busan, for the seasonal yellowtail sashimi that's coming up soon, haha.

The Nakdong River sunset right in front
Right in front here you can see the Nakdong River, so it's also great for enjoying the view. With the sun just starting to set, it made for a nice, happy way to wrap up the meal, haha.

Suseong Susan — an easy name to remember, kind of like 'SSSS'!
