Visiting Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu

I was trying to decide where to take my kid for weekend lunch and ended up going back to Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu after a while.

It's a place I go to often because it's filling without being pricey. This time I visited around 1:30pm on a Sunday, and there were still people waiting. Luckily the wait wasn't long — we were seated within 5 minutes.

We ordered the same thing as last time: 3-person shabu kalguksu with mild broth. It's a menu that works well with a kid, so I tried it again 😊

How long is the wait at 1:30pm on a Sunday?

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a place I visit pretty often in the Munhyeon-dong area.

Outside the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon

At 1:30pm on a Sunday I figured lunch rush would be over, but there was a waitlist out front.

Still, tables turn over fast, so we didn't wait long. We wrote our name down and got a table shortly after. Inside, every table was full, and I saw a lot of families with kids.

What you get in the 11,000-won shabu kalguksu set

One of Yunujae's biggest strengths is definitely the price.

You get shabu-shabu, then house-made kalguksu noodles, and finish with fried rice — all for ₩11,000 per person, which keeps things light on the wallet. We ordered for 3 again and picked the mild broth, which works well with a kid.

Pot of mild broth with the basic table setting

You start by cooking vegetables and meat in the broth shabu-shabu style, and once you've eaten a good amount, you finish with the kalguksu noodles.

The shabu-shabu comes with plenty of vegetables like napa cabbage and mushrooms, along with meat.

Lightly cooking the meat in the bubbling broth gives it a soft, clean flavor that went well with the mild broth.

I'm especially a fan of the kalguksu noodles here. Since they're house-made, the noodles have a springy, chewy texture, and they hold up well in the soup without going soft too fast.

After the shabu-shabu and then the noodles, the portion turns out to be pretty filling.

Preparing the finishing fried rice

Once the noodles are gone, you finish with fried rice. Even after the shabu-shabu and kalguksu, somehow there's still room for the fried rice.

Finished fried rice served with kimchi

The deep flavor of the broth soaks into the rice, making for a savory, clean finish. We had it with kimchi on the side too, which wasn't too sharp and had just the right amount of spice to go with the food.

Is Yunujae a good choice with a child?

Mild-broth shabu kalguksu, good for eating with a kid

When eating out with a kid, anything too spicy or intense gets a second thought. Yunujae lets you choose mild broth, which made it easy to bring my kid along.

Shabu kalguksu shared by a family of three

Starting with vegetables and meat in shabu-shabu, then moving to the noodles my kid loves, meant the whole family could eat well off one menu. And best of all, the price isn't a burden, which makes it an easy pick for family dining out.

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu: the verdict

After eating here again, I remembered exactly why I keep coming back. Shabu-shabu, house-made kalguksu, and fried rice all in one meal for ₩11,000 per person is solid value.

The fact that there was still a wait even at 1:30pm on a Sunday shows this place is still popular. Even so, we got seated in under 5 minutes, so we didn't have to wait long.

It's the kind of place I think of when I want a hearty, wallet-friendly meal with my kid, and I'll likely keep coming back whenever I'm in the area. If you're looking for an affordable kalguksu spot or a family dining option in Busan, it's worth a visit.
