Gangneung café for a mother-daughter strawberry latte date: Baegya Coffee

Baegya Coffee is an ocean-view café in Gangneung where you can enjoy coffee and desserts while looking out at the sea. It sits right in front of the water, so from a window seat you get a refreshing, wide-open view of the ocean. There is a varied menu too, from bakery items to coffee, lattes, and ice cream. Most of all, the café is spacious and even has a rooftop, which made it a lovely place for a relaxed date with my daughter.

This time, my daughter and I went on a café date, just the two of us. As a mother and daughter who love the sea, the ocean view that greeted us as soon as we walked in caught our eye first. Let me start with the parking.

Where should you park?

Baegya Coffee is a large building, so it was not difficult to spot from the road. There is room to park several cars right in front of the café as well.

If there is no space in front, head up beside the building and there is a separate, spacious parking lot. Seeing it myself, it looked large enough for around 20 to 30 cars, so it was convenient to visit by car.

Getting there by public transport

If you are taking the KTX, catch local bus 202-1 from Gangneung Station and get off at the Gyeongpo Beach stop. It is about a 15-minute walk from the stop to the café. If you are arriving by intercity or express bus, take local bus 202-1 from the Gangneung Intercity and Express Bus Terminal to Gyeongpo Beach stop; again, after about a 15-minute walk, you will reach Baegya Coffee.

What is Baegya Coffee like inside?

Inside, the first thing you see is a clean, spacious ordering area. The wood-toned counter and lighting came together for an overall warm yet tidy atmosphere.

There was a display of bread along one side, with quite a wide variety to choose from.

According to Baegya Coffee's notice, it uses naturally fermented starter raised with French flour and follows a same-day production and sale policy, making everything in-house. Rather than having coffee alone, this was a large Gangneung bakery café where it was nice to choose bread or dessert alongside it.

The drinks were varied too—not only coffee, but lattes, ades, tea, and ice cream. My daughter and I looked around at this and that, then picked the things we wanted to try.

What did we order?

Once everything was on one tray, I realized we had chosen a little of everything, from bread and ice cream to drinks.

The strawberry-packed latte was pretty to look at, with red strawberries layered at the bottom beneath the milk. I could see strawberry pieces between the ice and milk too, and once stirred well, it had both strawberry flavor and the soft taste of milk.

The item that immediately caught my eye was the Oksigi ice cream. The yellow ice cream was generously topped with corn and crunchy toppings. After one bite, the smooth ice cream and texture of the toppings made it really tasty.

As my daughter and I shared spoonfuls and chatted about this and that, we ended up staying at the café for a long time.

When I cut into the Jofteu Fred, its layered filling showed through. It was topped with sweet sauce and nuts, so it was nice with coffee or a latte.

We also tried the nicely browned egg tart. Its exterior had a deep baked color, while the inside was filled with a moist filling, making it a good dessert to enjoy alongside our drinks.

You cannot leave out the sea here

This view was what I loved at Baegya Coffee. The Gangneung sea stretches out refreshingly right beyond the huge floor-to-ceiling windows. Without deliberately heading out to find the sea, I could sit with a drink and watch the waves. It was also lovely to sit side by side with my daughter, talk, and look out at the water, and I thought it was a space people looking for an ocean-view café in Gangneung would enjoy.

Not only the window seats, but the interior itself was very spacious. There was plenty of room between tables, and seating continued along the windows, so it did not feel cramped. The lighting and plants blended in naturally, making the atmosphere feel comfortable despite the café's large size.

The sea feels even closer from the rooftop

Upstairs, there was a rooftop area too. There were plenty of tables and chairs, and it was open toward the sea, so I thought it would be so nice to sit there and eat on a fine day. Unfortunately, it rained on the day we visited, so we could not eat on the rooftop. We only looked around, took photos, and came back down, but if I visit again on a beautiful day, I would love to sit on the rooftop with a cup of coffee and watch the sea.

From its location directly in front of the sea to its spacious interior, bakery, and rooftop, Baegya Coffee offered plenty to enjoy in one building. In particular, the sea beyond the huge windows stayed with me long after this visit. Sharing delicious desserts with my daughter and talking while looking out at the sea made our time at the café itself into such an enjoyable date. If you are looking for a Gyeongpodae café or an ocean-view café in Gangneung with ample parking as well as bakery items and desserts, it is worth stopping by.
