Suwon Korean restaurant for a hearty barley rice set: Boriook

In short

Boriook Main Branch is a Korean restaurant near Mangpo Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. After work, I ordered the 2-person grilled mackerel set for 15,000 won with unlimited side dishes, doenjang-jjigae, and barley rice. Boriook Main Branch is a filling spot I’d happily revisit with my parents.

I got off work and there was nothing to eat at home ㅠㅠ So, an emergency decision to eat out!!! There’s a great unlimited-refill barley rice place near my home, so I visit often. It’s a Suwon spot for unlimited-refill barley rice that would be so nice to bring your parents to as well.

Boriook Main Branch, close to Mangpo Station

Here’s Boriook Main Branch, a great Mangpo Station and barley rice restaurant!! It’s about a five-minute walk from Mangpo Station Exit 1. It’s close to the station, and there are lots of companies at Digital Empire, so it seemed like many people come from there.

This is Boriook’s exterior! Since it specializes in barley rice, I expected a rustic-looking exterior, but it was actually very modern and polished.

Boriook has space for around six cars right in front! Since it’s such a popular restaurant, the parking lot is always full. They let you know that nearby curbside parking is available.

Traditional-style interior and menu

This is the inside of Boriook! The interior actually had a lovely traditional feel. It was decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay that looked completely expensive, so it felt very upscale.

This is the menu at Boriook Main Branch! As you’d expect from a Suwon unlimited-refill barley rice restaurant, the barley rice set is the basic menu, and for a small extra charge, you can add things like mackerel or spicy pork.

Unlimited self-bar side dishes and dessert

When you order, they bring out this basic setup. Then you can take your empty plates to the self-bar! The self-bar is full of varied, fresh side dishes, and I think Boriook’s biggest strength is that every single one is unlimited refill!

You can have more barley rice too, and if you prefer, there’s white rice as well. The men usually seemed to go back for more rice.

Dessert is ready too, with coffee or maesil-cha (Korean plum tea), so you can finish everything from the meal to dessert in one go!

I loaded up a plate at the self-bar like this! By the way, the fried items are insanely delicious, so I recommend them haha. There were so many tasty foods that my eyes got a little bigger, but even taking just a little of each was enough to fill me up haha.

As I was arranging my barley rice nicely, the doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and mackerel arrived too! Grilled mackerel set for 2: ₩15,000

Doesn’t it all look so delicious??? The barley rice looked good, and the doenjang-jjigae and grilled mackerel both looked amazing too. Drizzle sesame oil over the barley rice like this, and it’s complete! Maybe it was especially good sesame oil, because the nutty aroma was just wonderful. The doenjang-jjigae was rich and earthy and so tasty too. Since there’s such a variety to try, I think parents would really love it here. You know it tastes even better when you add a ladleful to barley rice bibimbap (mixed rice), rather than eating it separately, right?

Give it a good mix and it’s ready! With so many ingredients, it had lots of different flavors and textures and was so delicious.

The mackerel was wonderfully mild, without even a hint of fishiness!!

The barley rice and mackerel went so well together—it was delicious eaten together too!! It’s a place I love and visit often, and as expected, there were so many side dishes, the mackerel was delicious, and everything was good. If you’re looking for a great barley rice restaurant in Suwon, I recommend visiting Boriook Main Branch~!!
