Cheonan Buldang-dong sushi for an after-work dinner: Ganghan Sushi
In short
Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch is a sushi restaurant in First Plaza in Buldang-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. A couple stopped by after work and ordered the 12-piece omakase sushi (23,000 won) and the 12-piece Ganghan special sushi (17,000 won), then added 4 pieces of sauce flame sushi and fried shrimp and paid 5,000 won more to swap the mini udon for handmade cold soba. What was planned as a simple weeknight dinner became a spread that rivalled omakase, making Ganghan Sushi a strong value pick in Cheonan.

Inside First Plaza in Buldang-dong: exterior and interior

The big menu board out front catches your eye right away. It was nice being able to check the menu before even walking in. When we peeked inside, the place was packed — I worried there'd be no seats, but luckily one table was open and we sat right down!
There was easy parking registration at the entrance, and high chairs were also ready for kids.
The interior had a clean, warm vibe overall, with four 2-person tables and two 4-person tables. There were office workers stopping by after work, couples on dates, and even solo diners! (These photos were taken on our way out, after we'd finished eating.)
Each table comes with pickled ginger, pickled radish, and soy sauce set up, plus a mint candy for after the meal!
What comes with every order: miso soup, rinsed aged kimchi, seafood croquette, mini udon

At 'Ganghan Sushi' in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, ordering sushi automatically comes with miso soup, washed aged kimchi, a seafood croquette, and mini udon.

The seafood croquette comes on a bed of cabbage salad — full of seafood flavor and nicely crisp, really tasty! The mini udon turned out to be more filling than I expected. I swapped mine for cold soba so I didn't get to try it, and my husband didn't share a single bite — just slurped the whole thing down himself, so no photo of that one haha.
Fried shrimp (3 pieces) and the 5,000 won handmade cold soba swap

The fried shrimp we ordered as an extra — three plump, crispy pieces, so good!

You can upgrade to cold soba for an extra ₩5,000 on top of the base set. It's a handmade cold soba loaded with icy slush — doesn't it look refreshing just to look at?!
There was more noodle than I expected, and the broth wasn't harsh at all — rich but clean and delicious!

Croquette, fried shrimp, mini udon, cold soba — honestly, that alone felt like a full meal, right? Haha, but the main event, the sushi, hadn't even arrived yet! Since they make it fresh to order, it takes a bit of time to come out.
The most basic option at 'Ganghan Sushi' in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, the Ganghan Sushi 12P, comes with 2 fried tofu sushi, 2 egg sushi, soy shrimp, gamtae shrimp, squid, honmaguro tuna, salmon, and flounder.
What's in the Ganghan Special Sushi 12P?
My husband's order, the Ganghan Special Sushi 12P, came with egg, scallop, soy shrimp, gamtae shrimp, squid, monkfish liver gunkan, swordfish belly, honmaguro tuna, salmon, and flounder. Compared to the basic Ganghan Sushi, it drops 2 fried tofu sushi and 1 egg piece and adds scallop, monkfish liver gunkan, and swordfish belly! My husband was too busy eating on his own to take individual photos, sorry 🥲
What's in the Omakase Sushi 12P for 23,000 won?

This is the omakase sushi 12P I ordered! Flounder, flounder belly, salmon, honmaguro tuna, swordfish belly, sweet shrimp uni, soy shrimp, abalone innards with cooked abalone, monkfish liver gunkan, gamtae yukhoe (seasoned raw beef style), and freshwater eel.

Seriously a lineup that rivals any omakase!! The quality and composition of the sushi were genuinely great. And this is ₩23,000? Such good value! The slices of fish were also cut thick, so the texture and flavor were both excellent. I was in awe the whole time I was eating. My husband kept saying he should've ordered the omakase instead haha, so I shared a bit with him. It's been so long since I've had sushi this good — if anyone asks me to recommend a sushi place in Buldang-dong, I'm saying 'Ganghan Sushi' without hesitation!!!
How does the sauce flame sushi (4 pieces) taste?

Out of curiosity, we also ordered the sauce flame sushi 4P — fried tofu, egg, scallop, and shrimp, each torched with a smoky flame flavor and topped with sauce. The sweet sauce combined with that smoky char was so good. I think kids would love this too!

Wiped out....
Is Ganghan Sushi in Cheonan worth it? Final verdict
We really only meant to have a simple dinner, but ended up with a sushi spread that rivaled omakase — generous, high quality, and satisfying. The owner and staff were all so kind too, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable!
With a solid free set, omakase-level quality, and great value all in one, 'Ganghan Sushi' in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, is a sushi restaurant worth visiting. If you're looking for a great lunch spot in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, or a sushi place with a well-rounded composition, I think you'll really enjoy it here!
