Boneless dakdoritang and rice combo at Sugisogeum, Daegu bar
In short
Sugisogeum Gyeongmyeong University branch is a Korean-style bar near Keimyung University's east gate in Dalseo, Daegu. On a weekday evening visit, the writer tried domestic boneless dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken), sugi-bap (a rice set with braised tofu and perilla leaf gimbap), and fried bunmoja (glass noodle fritters), plus a homemade cream cheese cracker received through a review event. It's always a bit of a dilemma figuring out where to go for a group dinner near Keimyung University in Seongseo. When you're going with several people, location matters, the menu needs to be shareable, and honestly, most of us prefer somewhere with a bit of energy rather than a super quiet spot.
This time I went to Sugisogeum's Keimyung University branch, near the school's east gate. I visited on a weekday evening, and... the place was packed. It was so busy I genuinely wondered if it really was a weekday — I was surprised the moment I walked in.
It seemed like a lot of people around Keimyung University's east gate come here for dinner plans or get-togethers, and while I was eating, I kept seeing more people walk in at nearby tables. So personally, I think this is a place worth recommending to anyone looking for a group dinner spot in Seongseo near Keimyung University.

Sugisogeum menu and what we ordered
The Sugisogeum menu

There were so many menu items — dakdori (spicy braised chicken), donkatsu (pork cutlet), cold shabu, salt pizza — and a lot of dishes I was curious to try. What we ordered that day was the domestic boneless dakdoritang and sugi-bap!

I love how neat and tidy the table setting looked.. 🩷

The starter was tofu with stir-fried kimchi — the tofu was soft and fluffy and the kimchi was nice and salty, and the combination of the two was amazing 🫨🫨
Sugi-bap: braised tofu + perilla leaf gimbap

We also ordered the sugi-bap, which I'd been curious about since I first saw the name. It's made up of braised tofu and perilla leaf gimbap (seaweed rice roll). Pairing it with the dakdoritang made the meal so much more filling. Highly recommend this combo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The perilla leaf gimbap in particular was much better eaten alongside the dakdoritang than plain rice on its own, and with the braised tofu too, we got to enjoy a much wider range of flavors than if we'd only ordered one dish!

If you're visiting with a group, adding the sugi-bap alongside a main dish to share seems like a great idea. Personally, I really recommend the sugi gimbap ❗️ The nutty perilla leaf gimbap is so good.. 🤭 I was worried it might be sold out since it apparently runs out often, but luckily it was still available when I visited ❗️

The braised tofu looks like it might have strong seasoning, but once you actually taste it, the seasoning is perfectly balanced.

Seriously the ultimate rice thief... 🩷🩷🫨
Domestic boneless dakdoritang and fried bunmoja

As the name suggests, the dakdoritang uses domestic boneless chicken, so I liked being able to eat it comfortably without having to pick out bones! And the broth was so good I ate it without even noticing my tongue was burning .....🫠🫠 hahahahaha
Since it's a single pot of dakdoritang to share among several people, I thought it would work well not just for meals with friends but also as a group dinner menu. If you're in Seongseo looking for dakdoritang or a dinner dish for several people to share, I recommend this one ❗️

It was my first time trying fried bunmoja (glass noodle fritters), and they were so chewy... They're already tasty on their own, but somehow fried they were even better...?🩷
Homemade cream cheese crackers from the review event

I also took part in the review event! The item I received was the homemade cream cheese crackers! They were simple to enjoy and made a nice dessert-style finish to the meal.

Is this really just a review event portion?

Homemade cream cheese, spread and spread

I was so full that I left a few pieces of the crackers behind, and I keep thinking about them 🫨 It really is fun to look forward to these kinds of review events when you visit. :)

This place seems better suited to chatting with friends over a meal or gathering as a group for dinners and get-togethers, rather than a quiet dining experience.
