Lunch dakgalbi with self-bar refills near Sinnonhyeon: Dakgalbijeon

In short

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a cheese dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diobil, a 5-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul, where the chicken is wrapped in potato pancake. At lunch I ordered the Gamssachidak set for two, added ramen noodles (sari), and refilled the basic side dishes at the self-bar. If you like mild, nutty-savory flavors, this combination works well — we finished every bite.

I went to Dakgalbijeon, a great-value dakgalbi (chicken galbi) restaurant near Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon. Unlike other dakgalbi places, here you wrap it in potato pancake, which apparently makes it even more popular haha. This was my first time trying dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake, and just thinking about that combination of tasty menu items got me excited ♥ Anyone looking for a great-value spot near Sinnonhyeon would probably love this too. I visited during lunchtime and it was pretty crowded, so I'd recommend booking ahead on Naver!

This great-value spot near Sinnonhyeon is a 5-minute walk from the station. It's on the 2nd floor, so you just climb one flight of stairs on the left side of the building. The panel signage and storefront sign are easy to spot, so it's simple to find.

Seating and reservations at Dakgalbijeon — does it work for groups?

Inside Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch there are two types of seating: round tables above the stairs and square hall tables below. If there are 4 or more of you, you'll probably want to sit at the round tables upstairs, or push together the 4-person tables downstairs. Naver reservations are available for groups of 4 or more. The seating is spacious and plentiful, so it seems like a good spot for group gatherings too.

Aprons and free side dish refills at the self-bar

Aprons are a must when eating dakgalbi. They're hung in front of the air conditioner and set up for you in advance. They give you basic side dishes that go well with the main dish, and there's a self-bar so you can refill comfortably — nice touch.

Ordering the Gamssachidak set for two

Being the great-value spot near Sinnonhyeon that it is, the set menus catch your eye first. Dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake — seriously?! Amazing. You can eat two delicious menu items at once, and the set menu is great value, so that's what we went with. We got the Gamssachidak for two!

"The spatula is mine!" — the phrase on it is so cute lol. The inside was clean and spacious, and even though it's a dakgalbi place, there was no smell or smoke, which I liked. I think that's because everything comes pre-cooked, and they clearly keep the interior super clean!

Cheese dakgalbi and ramen noodles — order the extra noodles early

The cheese dakgalbi arrived first. Since it comes fully cooked, you can eat it right as the cheese melts. We added a ramen noodle sarita (extra noodles) — you can only order sarita before it's served, since it's hard to add once everything is set up!! Be sure to pick in advance!

While waiting for the cheese to melt, I couldn't resist and tried the ramen sarita first. The sauce wasn't too strong and paired so well with the chewy noodles that I got even hungrier ㅠ There were various sarita options like jjolmyeon noodles — next time I'm adding two sarita orders!! So good.

A potato pancake bigger than the plate

The potato pancake came out quickly! It was so big it spilled over the edges of the plate, and not just the edges — even the center was fried nice and crispy ㅠㅠ They gave us a dipping sauce too, so I was excited to dip the potato pancake in it. Each one was plenty tasty on its own too.

First I covered the ramen noodles with the potato pancake and ate it that way. Dipping it in the sauce they gave us made it even more savory. The potato pancake is so big you can wrap a generous bite — nice.

Of course, dakgalbi needs cheese. Eating it with cheese seems to double the savory flavor. It goes better with the potato pancake than I expected!

Wrapping dakgalbi in potato pancake: final verdict

Cutting up the potato pancake and loading it with dakgalbi, vegetables, and cheese for one big wrap. The soft flavor of the potato pancake goes so well with the dakgalbi sauce. If you like savory, mild flavors, Dakgalbijeon will suit you perfectly! We ate every bit without leaving anything lol.

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a great-value spot near Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam Station, and with its spacious, comfortable interior, it's also a good spot for group gatherings! This was my first time trying the combo of cheese dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake, and it was so mild and delicious that I kept thinking about it,, Next time I want dakgalbi again, I'll come back with friends. Thanks for the meal ♥
