Seongsu café with red bean ice cream and 3 coffees: Mellows

Today I'm bringing you a dessert spot in Seongsu-dong that can wash away that heavy, greasy, stuffed feeling with something refreshing. It's a café full of atmosphere, perfect for resting after a loop around Seongsu-dong, and the coffee and desserts were tasty enough to leave me satisfied.

Where Mellows is and what the Seongsu café looks like

Mellows is about a 3-minute walk from Ttukseom Station. There's a galbi (grilled ribs) alley nearby and Seoul Forest too, so it's a great spot to combine with other stops.

With the weather turning cooler these days, it's the perfect time to sit outside. The outdoor seats looked so nice I wanted to sit there, but they were already full, so I settled for a table inside (this photo was taken on my way out...).

Mellows hours and how to order

Mellows runs from 7am to 1am the next day — desserts during the day, but the menu switches to a cocktail bar in the evening. I hear people pair ice cream with cocktails these days as a snack, so coming at night for that combo sounds great too.

Ordering through the tablet was really convenient. I ordered two kinds of ice cream and three coffees. There were so many ice cream flavors I agonized over it, but the red bean ice cream looked like a new item, so I had to try it 🐶

Mellows is known as an ice cream specialty shop using Sangha Farm milk, but I'd also heard the coffee was great, so I got a bit greedy and ordered one of each 😆 The coffee prices were only in the ₩2,000–3,000 range, so it wasn't a big splurge.

How is the coffee at Mellows? Americano, café latte and vanilla latte

They made our order quickly. Mellows uses beans with some acidity, and I was totally into it. The latte made with Maeil milk was rich and nutty..💚 This place is a latte spot, seriously 👍 My companion had the vanilla latte — someone who tells you flat out if something's bad — and they gave it a thumbs up too 👍

Red bean and peach ice cream: deep milk flavor

Still, ice cream is really the main event at Mellows. I usually prefer milk or vanilla flavors over chocolate or strawberry, so if you have the same taste, you have to go here. The milk flavor runs deep and rich — the kind you devour in no time.

There's a wide range of toppings to pick from, and eating something sweet like this alongside a sip of bitter iced americano was a perfect match 😆

Final verdict: the dessert stop to book in Seongsu-dong

Mellows looks good and tastes even better.. From now on, this is my go-to for dessert whenever I'm in Seongsu-dong. But it feels wrong to only write compliments 😇 if I had to pick something, it'd be the limited seating — a bit nerve-wracking during peak hours. But hey, you can always take it to go?
