Moran Station Korean BBQ: pork jowl and doenjang stew, Mat Chandeul
In short
Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch is an aged-pork Korean BBQ restaurant on the food street by Moran Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a weekday visit at 6:30 pm booked through Naver Reservations, the order was one serving each of pork belly and pork jowl, then an extra serving of pork belly plus a Korean beef doenjang stew, with staff checking the grill temperature and cooking every piece. Side dishes at Mat Chandeul run generous, from mukbap (chilled acorn jelly soup) to pickles and baek-kimchi, and the room is filled with groups of 6 to 8 on company dinners.

There's one place that instantly comes to mind when you want proper pork belly near Moran Station! I headed to Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch, famous for its thick aged meat and clean lineup of side dishes. 🥩✨

Mat Chandeul's Moran branch sits right on the Moran Station food street, so it's really easy to find! If you're coming by subway, just take Exit 3 or Exit 4 — the walking distance is about the same either way!

The storefront was clean, and the signature menu and prices were clearly posted near the entrance, so I could check everything before going in. I visited around 6:30pm on a weekday, and since I'd reserved ahead through Naver, the table was already set up when I arrived. I'd really recommend booking ahead!
Is Mat Chandeul good for a group dinner in Moran? Seating and atmosphere
Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch has plenty of seating, so it seems great for company dinners too. I went with a friend, and as time passed, groups of 6 to 8 kept coming in for what looked like work dinners! If you're looking for a group dinner spot in Moran, I'd recommend Mat Chandeul!

Looking at the menu, there are set menus, a meat menu, meal dishes, and add-on items, plus lunch specials during the day! Booking ahead for the lunch special sounds like a good idea.
A Korean BBQ restaurant that pours Asahi draft beer
While I was reading through the menu... my friend was running a little late... so I ordered a draft beer first.

Honestly, you don't often find draft beer at a barbecue place, right? But they actually had Asahi on tap! Nice and fizzy, really tasty! Draft beer never fails 🍺

Side dishes at Mat Chandeul: mukbap, pickles and baek-kimchi
I took my time ordering the meat, and the banchan (side dishes) came out before the meat was even set up. The basic spread included mukbap (acorn jelly noodle salad), pickles, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), pickled vegetables, radish salad with garlic, ssamjang, wasabi, salted shrimp, and lettuce wraps! The mukbap portion was huge for a 'basic' side dish, and it tasted refreshing and great. I debated the set menu but ended up ordering one serving of pork belly and one of pork jowl because I really wanted the jowl!

Aged pork belly and pork jowl, grilled from start to finish by staff
At Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch, the staff grill everything for you. They check the grill temperature first before laying the meat down.

The meat comes pre-seasoned with herb salt. It was so convenient having the staff grill the thick cuts to just the right point for eating.
They also showed us how best to eat the pickles and baek-kimchi!

As you can see, they build a wrap right on the grill — and that's where the pickles and kimchi really shine! I don't usually eat the pickled chili peppers with meat, but wrapped in kimchi with wasabi, it was seriously so good!

At first I ate it as a wrap. Then dipped it in the Andes salt and Himalayan salt that come with the meat order, then tried it with wasabi too — and before I knew it, I was just constantly making wraps!

How was the Korean beef doenjang stew?
The meat was so good that I added another serving of pork belly, plus a beef doenjang stew (fermented soybean paste stew)!

Wow, but the beef doenjang stew was also really hearty and delicious! It was filling enough that I felt like I could come for lunch and eat just the stew alone! Some barbecue places serve doenjang stew that's basically watery broth with nothing in it, but this one was packed with tofu, zucchini, green onion, and meat — spicy and savory, genuinely delicious!
Final verdict on Mat Chandeul near Moran Station
If you're looking for a proper pork belly restaurant or an aged-meat spot near Moran Station, I highly recommend Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch! The meat quality is a given, but the side dish lineup that pairs with it is so well put together that it made for a genuinely satisfying meal. This is the perfect place to catch up with friends over good food ✨
