Ingye-dong beef restaurant in Suwon with truffle pesto: Jipbul Taebaek

In short

Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is a Korean beef BBQ restaurant on Nahyeseok-geori in Ingye-dong, Suwon, where staff grill straw-seared beef for you from start to finish. On a weekend visit with their parents, the writer ordered prime rib for two, skirt steak (anchangsal), chuck flap steak (salchisal) and beef cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), and the black sesame salt with truffle pesto was the standout pairing. Jipbul Taebaek works well for a family meal where nobody has to sweat over the grill.

Last weekend my family was trying to figure out where to go for a meal together, and since I'd been wanting to try prime rib, we headed to Jipbul Taebaek, a restaurant that's become well known on Nahyeseok-geori in Ingye-dong.

Jipbul Taebaek in Ingye-dong: the place for prime rib

Since it was a meal out with my parents, I chose carefully — the meat quality had to be good and the atmosphere had to be clean and pleasant. Everyone in the family left satisfied!

Where to park?

Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch doesn't have its own parking lot, so we parked at the nearby Suwon Gyeonggi Art Center. It's a solid 10-minute walk. *About ₩1,000 per hour.

Walking in, the place felt clean and comfortable, with generous space between tables — perfect for chatting with family over a meal. The dining hall was tidy and neat, which also made it look like a great spot for gatherings or work dinners.

Jipbul Taebaek Ingye: what we ordered

My family ordered a good spread: 2 servings of the main prime rib, plus specialty cuts skirt steak and chuck flap steak, and added beef cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) stew and rice.

The side dishes came out fast! Parents always care a lot about the banchan, don't they. Mine were happily digging in, saying they were clean-tasting and delicious. The japchae and salad were especially good.

Pre-seared beef cuts brought to the table

Starting with skirt steak: staff grill everything for you

Next, the pre-seared cuts arrived at the table. Since they'd been seared hard once over straw fire, there was a real smoky aroma to them.

The thing you worry about most on a family dinner out is who's going to grill, right? Usually one person ends up not eating properly because they're busy grilling, while everyone else feels bad about it. But here, the staff carefully grilled the meat for us from beginning to end. They timed each cut perfectly so nothing burned — it was such a relief!

First up was the skirt steak! It was really clean-tasting and nutty. I dipped it lightly in just salt, and with every bite, deep, rich juices came out — the umami was on another level. The meat wasn't tough at all, with a satisfying chew.

This is the black sesame salt — dipping the meat in this is amazing.

I loved that there was a variety of kimchi and sauces to pair with the meat.

On the left is angelica and truffle pesto, and this was incredible. Truffle is totally my thing. Dipping the meat in soy sauce in between was also really good.

Jipbul Taebaek Ingye: the lettuce wraps are fresh too

There's plenty of lettuce at the self-serve bar! Help yourself to as much as you want.

Prime rib grilling on the pan

By the time we finished the skirt steak, the prime rib was fully grilled. I picked up a piece with a bit of wasabi on top, and the moment I bit into it, that deep, distinctive straw-fire smoky flavor spread through my whole mouth along with rich, savory juices.

The look of that prime rib.. They really grill it well.

Since it's meat on the bone, you get chewy texture and tender flesh at the same time, with just enough fat to make it even more delicious! You know what I mean..

I want to eat it again.. At the end, they carefully trimmed the last bits of meat off the bone and grilled them crispy, which was so filling.

The chuck flap steak was the best

Last up was the chuck flap steak! Skirt steak and prime rib were both delicious, but for me, the chuck flap steak was the tastiest. Pure softness itself.. They seared the outside over high heat to lock in the juices while keeping the inside moist, and it melted the second it hit my mouth.

There was no off-flavor at all, just a spreading savory, nutty richness, and it paired great with grilled kimchi and bracken fern.

Ingye-dong Jipbul Taebaek's spicy beef cheonggukjang stew

You can't have meat without a stew to go with it. We also ordered the beef cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) stew, served bubbling in an earthenware pot.

Cheonggukjang stew filled with beef and tofu

When I scooped it with the ladle, it was generously packed with beef, tofu, and other ingredients. The usual pungent funk of cheonggukjang was completely gone — the broth was savory, spicy, and deep.

I loved how much was packed into it! Perfect with freshly cooked rice..

Overall thoughts on Jipbul Taebaek Ingye-dong

Final spread of meat at Jipbul Taebaek Ingye Branch

What I liked most about Jipbul Taebaek Ingye Branch was the quality of the straw-fired meat and the flawless grilling service that let the whole family eat comfortably. Nobody had to do the hard work — a pro handled the grilling perfectly, so we could focus entirely on chatting with family and enjoying delicious meat. And of course, the meat was delicious too.
