Bakery café in Jayang-dong, Seoul for kaya croissant: Stack Bakery

My boyfriend and I had some errands in a neighborhood I used to live in, and we heard there was a bakery café nearby famous for croissants. I'm a total bread person, so how could I just walk past a place like that? Especially when it's supposedly a croissant hotspot — we headed straight there.

Where is Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch, and where can you park?

Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch sits at 5 Ttukseom-ro 31-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, right in front of Daedong Apartment in Jayang-dong, so it's very easy to get to. It's open from 08:00 to 21:00, closed every Wednesday.

Unfortunately there's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to use the nearby Jayang 4-dong public parking lot!

Stack Bakery's outdoor terrace and the first and second floors

As soon as you arrive in front of Stack Bakery, the outdoor terrace catches your eye first. On a nice day, sitting out here with a freshly baked pastry and a cup of coffee would set the mood perfectly.

The moment you open the door, the smell of bread hits you, and honestly I couldn't resist it haha. The first floor is an open kitchen, so you can watch the bread being made, and there's also a coffee-brewing area.

The second floor has a cozy overall vibe with table seats and bar seats. The view toward the window was better than I expected, with all that green from the trees.

What's on the menu at Stack Bakery in Jayang-dong?

And now, the star of the show — the bakery case! Since this place specializes in croissants and French pastries, they had everything from plain croissants to kouign-amann and other pastries lined up. We ordered a kaya croissant, a flat croissant, a whole-grilled sausage pastry, an iced americano, and a house-made iced vanilla latte.

While waiting for our order, we wandered around the store and noticed traces of celebrity visits here and there — apparently Super Junior even did a live broadcast from this spot! I thought it was just a neighborhood bakery, but it turns out to be quite famous. I guess good places really do get talked about!

Our drinks and pastries finally arrived! We sat at the spot with the green tree view — doesn't the photo look extra pretty because of that atmosphere?

The iced americano uses beans blended by a roaster with 15 years of experience, and it was clean with no sourness, which paired really well with the croissants and pastries! It went especially well with the buttery bread.

The house-made vanilla latte wasn't as sweet as I expected. If you're like me and don't prefer overly sweet vanilla lattes, you might actually like this one better.

How the kaya croissant and whole-grilled sausage pastry taste

And now, the kaya croissant! This one has kaya jam (coconut jam) and butter inside, so just looking at it you know it's a can't-lose combination. One bite in — the outside was crispy, the inside soft, and the sweetness of the kaya jam came through together with the buttery, savory flavor.

The whole-grilled sausage pastry had whole-grain mustard in it, and that sharp mustard kick cut through the richness nicely — really good!

From the kaya croissant to the sausage pastry to the flat croissant, everything was so delicious that we ended up finishing every last piece haha. If you're looking for a bakery with great atmosphere and amazing croissants near Konkuk University, I recommend Stack Bakery, one of the best café spots in the area!
