Busanjin Chinese restaurant seafood jjamppong: Surabanjeom
In short
Surabanjeom Gaya Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Gaya-dong, Busanjin, Busan. I tried the seafood jjamppong, an extra-large jajangmyeon, and mini tangsuyuk in its two-person set. Verdict: a satisfying Chinese meal with excellent seafood flavor and crisp-chewy pork.

Introducing Surabanjeom in Gaya-dong
I visited Surabanjeom (수라반점), known as a great Chinese restaurant near Dong-eui University Station. It is a place where you can enjoy everything from staple Chinese dishes such as jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) and jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) to tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork) all at once. I was especially excited because they say their jjamppong is made with a low-temperature-aged sauce of seafood and dried seafood -:)

Surabanjeom, ranked No. 1 for repeat orders among Baemin delivery favorites in Gaya-dong, is across from Gaya High School.

If you are driving, use Taeyang Parking Lot beside the restaurant; they provide one hour of free parking.

The interior is kept very clean. The tables are generously spaced, so you can dine comfortably; it is not huge, but it seats up to 30 people, so I thought it would be just right for a group gathering too.

Surabanjeom menu selection
Surabanjeom offers a wide variety: set menus that combine several dishes, easy meal options such as jajangmyeon, jjamppong, and udon, main dishes including tangsuyuk, and sides such as dumplings and menbosha (fried shrimp toast).

There are also well-rounded drinking-snack sets, which are great when several people visit and want to try a range of dishes at once.

Self-service bar and free rice
The self-service bar has danmuji (pickled yellow radish), onion, and kimchi side dishes.

I also loved that steamed rice is provided for free.

Seafood jjamppong and jajangmyeon in a two-person set
I ordered the two-person set with jajang, jjamppong, and mini tangsuyuk. I changed the jajang to an extra-large serving (+₩1,000) and the jjamppong to seafood jjamppong (+₩1,000). For an additional ₩1,000, the set jjamppong can be changed to seafood, beef brisket, soft tofu, or spicy fire jjamppong.

Seafood jjamppong loaded with seafood
This seafood jjamppong was loaded with green mussels, baby cuttlefish, Manila clams, squid, shrimp, and more. With so much seafood in it, the broth and noodles were both packed with seafood flavor.

It was nicely spicy with a real wok-smoky flavor—so good 👍 The noodles were wonderfully bouncy too. It was the kind of flavor that calls for a drink, so in the end I ordered one... secret ^^

Sweet, rich extra-large jajangmyeon
Jajangmyeon with glossy black bean sauce that looked incredibly appetizing!

After mixing the noodles and sauce evenly, the rich black bean sauce had properly soaked into the noodles. The sauce leans sweet, so it was easy to share with a child, and mine ate it so well.

The sweet-savory, lightly salty jajang flavor was so moreish that I finished a whole bowl in no time.

Glutinous tangsuyuk that even worked with salt
This glutinous tangsuyuk is made with Korean pork, Surabanjeom's own aged batter, and brining method. It comes with salt and ketchup sauce. I was a little taken aback by the salt at first, but oh—the tangsuyuk was delicious dipped in it!? It is quite a nice pairing.

Above all, the crispness and chewiness were incredible 👍

A dip in the sweet-tangy ketchup sauce too—* The sweet-and-tangy sauce over the crisp coating really woke up my appetite.

The pork was thick and tender, making this glutinous tangsuyuk such a delicious treat.

One meal with jajang, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk
I enjoyed everything at Surabanjeom, from jajangmyeon and jjamppong to the mini tangsuyuk! If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant near Dong-eui University Station with a varied menu and a hearty meal, I wholeheartedly recommend it 👍
