The jjajangmyeon came topped with a cute little quail egg, and I ordered it large — the portion was massive lol. So glossy, that jjajang sauce. A must-visit Chinese restaurant near Dongui University Station

They poured on plenty of jjajang sauce, loaded with onions, with chewy noodles that really stood out at Surabanjeom. It wasn't too salty either, right to my taste! Great for feeding the kids too 💚

Shrimp fried rice and the jjamppong broth

The shrimp fried rice came with a side of jjamppong broth. I'd had shrimp fried rice before at the Seomyeon branch of Surabanjeom and remembered it being really delicious, so I ordered it again. And it was just as good as I remembered. I don't usually order fried rice, but Surabanjeom's fried rice is amazing!!! haha 😆

Fried rice cooked well in a savory jjajang-based sauce, paired with plump shrimp — the combination was genuinely delicious. It wasn't greasy either, which made it even better 😊 Well-known spot near Gaya Park

And the jjamppong broth that came alongside ㅠㅠㅠㅠ absolutely incredible! I thought, oh, their jjamppong must be amazing too. I'm planning to order the actual jjamppong next time lol. That smoky wok-fired flavor was on point too — apparently they make the broth from various seafood and dried seafood, then slow-age it at low temperature. Totally different from regular Chinese restaurants that just season with plain chili powder — I have to give them credit 👍

Why dip Surabanjeom's mini tangsuyuk in sesame salt?

The menu said "mini" sweet and sour pork, but the meat pieces were super thick, so the portion was huge. Well-known spot near Gaya Park

The meat was truly, truly delicious 🤤 I already had good memories of Surabanjeom's sweet and sour pork, but today it was especially good. There was absolutely, not even the slightest, meaty smell. The best ㅠㅠㅠ

The sweet and sour sauce was also really good — less sour than the sauce at other Chinese restaurants, so I enjoyed it even more. Chewy glutinous rice tangsuyuk + sweetish sauce 😚

But the real twist at this place is the sweet and sour pork dipped in salt! At first I didn't even notice the salt was there and just kept eating with the sauce, thinking the meat itself was amazing — then my husband told me to try dipping it in the salt, and after one bite, I ended up dipping every last piece in salt from then on haha. When the meat itself is this good, dipping it in just sesame salt is even better!!! Highly recommend,,,❤️👍

Is Surabanjeom Gaya Branch okay with 5- and 7-year-olds?

Our 5- and 7-year-olds ate really well and left happy haha. The jjajangmyeon wasn't too salty, so it was great for feeding the kids too. Well-known spot near Gaya Park

One more thing — rice refills are free at Surabanjeom !!! Mixing rice into leftover jjamppong or jjajang sauce is basically the unwritten rule of eating Chinese food, right,,? haha. Such a happy bonus, the free rice.

Every dish here felt like it carried real skill and experience — a well-known spot near Gaya Park that I'd recommend to friends! Next time I'm craving sweet and sour pork, I'm getting it to go. Also great as a side with drinks! I'll be back.
