Four soft serve flavors compared open till 1am near Ttukseom: Mellows

In short

Mellows is an ice cream café near Ttukseom Station in Seongdong, Seoul, that also runs as a pub late into the night. The writer ordered four soft serve flavors made with Sanghamokjang milk—milk, matcha, peanut butter, and chocolate—to compare, and the owner even threw in a free glass of red wine mixed with cola. A great spot for when a sudden late-night sweet tooth strikes.

After dinner I kept craving something cool and sweet to cleanse my palate, especially since it was so hot out. So this time I visited Mellows, a premium ice cream shop near Ttukseom Station 🍨

It's easy to find near Ttukseom Station, so it's a great option if you're looking for a café or dessert spot in the area. What makes it a bit different from your typical ice cream shop is that you can try soft serve made with fresh Sanghamokjang milk!

Ice cream by day, pub by night

Another thing I loved about Mellows is that it stays open late 🌙 During the day it's a spot for premium ice cream, but at night it turns into a pub, staying open until 1am the next morning!

So for someone like me who suddenly craves ice cream late at night, this place is such a relief haha. Usually when I want ice cream or dessert, cafés close early, but here I could visit late and it was great.

The taste of Sanghamokjang milk soft serve

These days there are so many ice cream products with strong artificial flavors or scents, but Mellows' ice cream felt less like artificial sweetness and more like the deep, rich taste of the milk itself! From the very first bite I could tell this was ice cream where the milk flavor really came through 🐄

This time I went all out and ordered four flavors—milk, matcha, peanut butter, and chocolate. Each one tasted quite different, so it was fun trying several together. I totally recommend splitting a few with friends...

Four flavors of ice cream: milk, matcha, peanut butter, chocolate

Milk flavor

First, the milk flavor, being Mellows' signature, was the cleanest and richest. It wasn't an artificial milky scent but a nutty, smooth taste of pure milk—personally, this was the most impressive one..! Even as it slightly melted toward the end, it stayed delicious, the milk flavor holding through so it felt like drinking rich milk itself.

Matcha flavor

The matcha flavor is genuinely a matcha lover's dream..! The slightly bitter matcha notes paired beautifully with the smooth ice cream. It wasn't overly bitter—the sweet, nutty taste of the ice cream came through too, so matcha fans would really enjoy this!

Bittersweet matcha soft serve

Chocolate flavor

The chocolate flavor was smooth and sweetly chocolatey, an easy crowd-pleaser. The softness of the milk ice cream and the sweetness of the chocolate blended well—basically a combo that's hard to mess up haha.

Peanut butter flavor

The peanut butter flavor had a clear, rich, nutty peanut taste! It was sweet yet had that distinct peanut butter nuttiness, making it great to alternate with the other flavors. If you like nutty desserts, I'd recommend this one.

After trying all four, they were each so good it was hard to pick just one favorite haha. So if it's your first visit, I'd recommend sharing a variety rather than sticking to just one flavor. Each one had its own character, making it fun to compare while eating!!

A free glass of red wine and cola

And just as I was finishing my ice cream, the owner gave me a free drink on the house. I don't remember the exact name, but it was some mix of red wine and cola, and it was surprisingly really delicious. It was sweet yet had that distinct wine character, making it a great way to finish off after ice cream. The owner was so kind! Beyond the delicious ice cream, the comfortable atmosphere where you could just relax made it even more memorable haha.
