Hello~ this is Park, the director.

Looking for a quiet spot in Gwangalli to have meat with family, I ended up at Donbegi.

This time I ordered the 800g mixed set, which lets you try shoulder rack, ogeopsal (pork belly), and mokssal (pork neck) all at once. The meat comes pre-seared and staff grill it right at the table, so eating was easy and relaxed. Since aged meat is said to have a better chewy texture when cooked to about 80% doneness rather than fully well-done, I tried it that way — and the texture was noticeably different from the pork I usually eat.

Where is Donbegi Gwang-an Branch, and where do you park?

Donbegi Gwang-an Branch is located at 34 Millak-bondong-ro 11beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, in Millak-dong, and uses both the 1st and 2nd floors. It's open daily 12:00–23:30, last order at 23:00. I visited at night, and the wood-toned exterior with soft lighting made it easy to spot even from the alley.

Parking is always the first thing on my mind when driving to a restaurant. Parking at the Seohee Star Hills Centum Primo officetel in front of the restaurant is supported for up to 2 hours. The first 120 minutes are free, and after that it's ₩2,000 per additional 60 minutes — worth keeping in mind.

Inside Donbegi Gwang-an Branch: 2nd-floor rooms and the self-serve bar

Walking into Donbegi Gwang-an Branch, the first thing that caught my eye was the aging chamber. Being able to see the meat aging inside gave the place a sense of professional meat management.

On one side, there were award certifications and medals displayed related to the 2025 KCIA Korea Consumer Industry Award. Seeing these kinds of certifications on my first visit made me a bit more excited.

What I liked most was that there's a private room on the 2nd floor. We visited as a family, and it was much quieter to eat there than in the main hall. It seems like a good option for family outings with kids, meals with parents, or quiet gatherings.

There's also a self-serve bar on the 2nd floor. Kimchi, pickles, garlic, peppers, lettuce for wraps — you could just grab whatever side dishes you needed yourself, which was convenient. Not having to keep calling staff for extra sides was nice too.

What the 800g mixed set costs and how to order it

You order at Donbegi Gwang-an Branch using the tablet on the table. Among the signature menus, the family mixed platter is said to be a set made up of Donbegi's best-selling items. It's made with shoulder rack or French rack plus ogeopsal and mokssal for a total of 800g, making it a good choice when dining with family or a larger group.

We ordered the 800g mixed set for ₩74,000, made up of shoulder rack 400g, ogeopsal 200g, and mokssal 200g. Even calculated per 100g it comes to around ₩9,000, and I liked being able to enjoy various cuts at once. We also added doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) for ₩5,500, 2 bowls of rice, and a cider.

Instead of grilling raw meat from scratch at the table, the meat comes out pre-seared, and staff grill it the rest of the way for you.

Timing the grill just right for thick cuts of meat is honestly tricky. It was really convenient having staff check each cut and slice and grill it to just the right doneness for us.

They explained that aged meat has a chewier texture when cooked to about 80% doneness.

Looking at the cut cross-section, there was a faint pink left inside, and eating it, it wasn't dry at all — it was moist with a firm, springy bite.

For the first bite I tried it without any side dishes, just a light dip in salt. The salty flavor made the meat's own savoriness stand out more clearly, and the charcoal aroma and juices came through fully — I was glad I started that way.

Ttaengchojang chili sauce and how the three cuts taste

What I especially liked was the ttaengcho sauce (spicy chili sauce).

Ttaengcho sauce made with finely chopped chili

Topping the meat with a bit of ttaengcho sauce, made with finely chopped chili, added a sharp kick that paired especially well with the fattier ogeopsal. The meat was savory at first, then finished with the ttaengcho's clean spiciness, cutting through the richness nicely.

Mokssal and shoulder rack sliced into bite-sized pieces

The mokssal was thick but surprisingly tender and moist. The shoulder rack had both a satisfying chew and juiciness at once, and the ogeopsal had lean meat and fat layers together for a clearly savory taste. The three cuts each had different textures, so even eating 800g wasn't monotonous.

It also went well eaten with kimchi or topped with shredded scallions, and pairing it with pickles added a tangy note that made each bite feel a little lighter.

Finishing the meal with doenjang jjigae

At the end, we ordered doenjang jjigae and rice. It came out bubbling hot, filled with tofu and vegetables. After eating plenty of meat, having a spoonful of rice with the warm broth reminded me — a barbecue meal really does need to end with doenjang jjigae.

Is Donbegi Gwang-an Branch worth it for a family dinner?

What I liked most about Donbegi was that the aged pork comes pre-seared and staff grill it directly for you. In particular, being able to eat thick cuts at just the right doneness let me really enjoy the moist, chewy texture unique to aged meat.

I'd recommend having the first bite plain with salt, then trying different combinations after with ttaengcho sauce, shredded scallions, or kimchi.

And if you're visiting with family, having a 2nd-floor room is a big plus. We could eat and chat quietly without worrying about others around us, and having the self-serve bar right there made the whole meal comfortable.

If you're looking for an aged-meat restaurant good for a family meal or gathering in Gwangalli or Millak-dong, Donbegi is worth a visit. Next time I'd like to try other cuts too :)
