Daegu restaurant for spicy beef soup and self-serve chili: Yukbanjang
In short
Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Gwangko Branch is a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) restaurant in front of Gwangjang Core, 230m from Exit 2 of Gamsam Station in Dalseo, Daegu. A married couple came for dinner and ordered red yukgaejang at 11,000 won, kalguksu yukgaejang (spicy beef soup with knife-cut noodles) at 11,000 won and a small hanbang suyuk (herbal boiled pork) at 15,000 won, refilling minced cheongyang chili and minced garlic at the self-serve bar. The broth was loaded with shredded beef and the suyuk had no gamey smell, so both dishes were satisfying.

How to eat yukgaejang the way locals do

Adding minced garlic and cheongyang chili makes the yukgaejang even more delicious!
What the couple ordered: red yukgaejang, kalguksu yukgaejang and small hanbang suyuk
Red yukgaejang ₩11,000 / Kalguksu yukgaejang ₩11,000 / Hanbang bossam (small) ₩15,000

We ordered red yukgaejang, kalguksu yukgaejang, and small hanbang bossam!

At Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Gwangko Branch, this Daegu yukgaejang restaurant, the house water is heotgae tea! The nutty heotgae tea put us in a good mood even before the meal started!
Basic side dishes included kkakdugi, baek-kimchi, minced garlic (set on the table by default), and pepper (also set on the table by default).

Lettuce (provided with the hanbang bossam order), chili peppers, garlic, ssamjang (dipping sauce), and salted shrimp.

Pickled green onions (made in-house by the owner), plus the minced garlic and cheongyang chili we brought over from the self-serve bar — a really generous spread altogether!

A go-to restaurant near Gamsam Station and Gwangjangkoa, this Daegu yukgaejang spot! Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Gwangko Branch was serving up a genuinely generous meal!
How does the 11,000-won red yukgaejang taste?
Here's the red yukgaejang I ordered!

The visual is really intense, isn't it :)
The beef chunks were super generous too! There was a lot of beef, which was really satisfying!
Apparently you can add more green onion for free! It felt heavier than the Gyeongsang-style beef radish soup — more substantial.
Yukbanjang's yukgaejang is spicy and hits the spot for a hangover! The beef, mung bean sprouts, and green onion all came together beautifully!
I even mixed rice into it — the broth is seriously deep!

The green onion had really infused the broth, adding even more depth to Yukbanjang's yukgaejang!
Kalguksu yukgaejang with knife-cut noodles, 11,000 won

Here's the kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) yukgaejang my husband ordered!

I'd recommend this to anyone who prefers noodles over rice!

The kalguksu noodles were properly chewy!
The spicy yukgaejang loaded with green onion paired really well with the noodles.
The kalguksu yukgaejang was also packed with beef! A generous, satisfying meal at this Daegu yukgaejang restaurant near Gamsam Station — Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Gwangko Branch!
Hanbang suyuk, small size for 15,000 won

We ordered the small hanbang (herbal) bossam to treat ourselves since it was Friday night!

Yukbanjang, known for its yukgaejang, is great at bossam too! It was surprisingly free of any odor and so tender — good enough to rival dedicated bossam restaurants!
Put a piece of bossam on a lettuce leaf, top with garlic, chili, and ssamjang, and wrap it up big — perfection!
