Fourth visit to Supbul Makchang, a makchang restaurant in Bolli-dong, Daegu
Today I'm writing about a Daegu Bolli-dong spot I've genuinely been to over and over. It's Supbul Makchang, and this is already my fourth visit. This isn't a place I went to once, thought "not bad," and moved on from — it's one of my personal go-to spots that I keep coming back to whenever the craving hits.
When I go out for makchang (grilled pork intestine), I really care about the smell and the texture, and Supbul Makchang has always cleared that bar for me, so I trust the place. This time, alongside my usual Iberico makchang, I tried the Iberico hot makchang for the first time, and it turned out to be way more my style than I expected.

What does Supbul Makchang look like? Wooden sign and outdoor patio tables
Outside Supbul Makchang

Even from far away, you can tell it's Supbul Makchang! The wooden sign paired with the greenery gives it more of an old-school open-air grill spot vibe than your average BBQ joint. When you search for makchang restaurants in Bolli-dong, Daegu, plenty of options come up. But this place has a whole concept going from the exterior to the interior, so it's not just somewhere to eat and leave — it's decent for photos too.
Inside Supbul Makchang

Inside, it feels like a mountain lodge with a touch of that patio energy too. Once you go further into Supbul Makchang, the space is bigger than expected, and with so much wood interior it feels warm. Even in photos you can see the tables lined up in a row — it looks like a place that works fine for groups too.
For a BBQ place, I personally prefer sitting somewhere a bit relaxed rather than somewhere overly bright and pristine, and Supbul Makchang has that feeling. With the bamboo and wood structures, even though you're inside Bolli-dong, it feels a bit like you've come out to an open-air spot on the outskirts. Even on this fourth visit, what struck me every time is that you come for Bolli-dong makchang and end up getting the atmosphere taken care of too.
Supbul Makchang menu prices and mixing one serving of each

- Iberico makchang – ₩12,000 per serving
- Iberico hot makchang – ₩13,000 per serving
- Iberico pork neck – ₩14,000
At Supbul Makchang, the first order has to be at least 3 servings, so we made it up to 3 total, and the great part was that you can order one serving of each kind. That matters more than you'd think — eating 3 servings of just makchang is nice too, but first-timers might want to try Iberico makchang and pork neck together.
Ordering mixed like we did is good for figuring out your preferences and keeps things from getting boring. Because of this, it's a good spot in Bolli-dong, Daegu for grabbing a drink, and also good for days you want both regular meat and makchang.
Table setting and self-serve bar at Supbul Makchang

Supbul Makchang's basic table setting comes out really well-stocked. Once you sit down, a whole line of basic side dishes gets laid out — looking at the photos again makes me want to eat it all over again haha. It comes with lettuce wraps, garlic, chili, various sauces, kimchi, pickles, and a soup that felt like a hot pot broth.
These basic side dishes matter more than you'd think when eating meat. Eating just makchang and pork neck the whole time can get a bit heavy, but having things to mix in between was nice. When looking for a good makchang spot in Daegu, meat quality matters, but I also pay attention to the basic side dishes and sauces, and this place did well there.
What the self-serve bar offers

The star of this visit: Iberico fire makchang, 13,000 won

The Iberico hot makchang I tried for the first time this time — bottom line, it was completely my style. I liked that it comes fully cooked, so you can eat it right away. It's perfect to pick at while waiting for other meat to come, and the seasoning wasn't just spicy — it had a flavor that really stuck with you. But here's the point,

it's delicious right away, but it's even better if you put it on the grill for a bit and warm it up. As the sauce slightly caramelizes and warms through, it really brings out that drinking-snack feeling. I'm definitely ordering this again next time. Fourth visit to Supbul Makchang, and now hot makchang has officially been added to my order list haha.
How to grill Supbul Makchang's plain Iberico makchang
You've got to eat the Iberico makchang in its basic form too, of course.

The hot makchang was the new standout this time, but if you've come for Bolli-dong makchang, you still have to eat the basic Iberico makchang. I grilled it on the pan until golden brown, and while it cooks, a savory smell starts rising up right away. Cooked so the outside is slightly crispy and the inside stays chewy — that's exactly right!!
If makchang is undercooked, the texture is off, and if it's grilled too long, it can get tough — eating it right when it turns golden brown was the tastiest. Among Daegu makchang spots, I prefer places without any off smell, and by my standards, this place was easy to eat without any worry. Very, very much so.

Why Iberico pork neck at 14,000 won joined the order
I'm glad I also ordered the Iberico pork neck. Eating only makchang can start to feel a bit greasy after a while, but ordering Iberico pork neck alongside it balanced things out nicely. The pork neck comes out thick, so putting it on the grill really gives you that satisfying meat-eating feeling. Grilling the mushrooms and potatoes that came with it made the whole spread look even more generous.
Personally, I'd recommend mixing in some pork neck even if you're a makchang fan. The chewiness of makchang and the meaty texture of pork neck are different, so it was nice to alternate between the two.
Especially, having a bite of hot makchang followed by a cold beer was perfect, and the basic makchang went well with soju too. A place like this is fine for a meal, but it seems better suited to going out for a drink in the evening. Among Bolli-dong, Daegu spots, this one is worth putting on the shortlist when you and your friends say, "Want to grab makchang and a drink today?"

Fourth visit verdict on Supbul Makchang
Once again, I left satisfied from Supbul Makchang!!! Since this was already my fourth visit, I have extra fondness for the place, and now that hot makchang has been added as something totally my style, I'll definitely be back!! For anyone looking for good food in Bolli-dong, Daegu who likes makchang and wants to eat Iberico pork neck alongside it, this is genuinely a solid choice.
It has atmosphere, good menu combinations, and it's comfortable for a drink, so it's one of those go-to spots that keeps coming to mind for me haha. If you're deciding where to go for makchang in Bolli-dong, add Supbul Makchang to your list of Daegu makchang restaurants. It's probably best to double-check the prices and offerings before you go.
