Daegu BBQ restaurant with mosquito-net patio seats: Modak Palgongsan

I was driving around the Palgongsan area and suddenly craved barbecue after a while, so I stopped by Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch (모닥텍사스바베큐 팔공산점).

The atmosphere is a bit different from a typical Korean barbecue place, so it made for a fun, different kind of meal to bring my kid along :) There's plenty of parking out front and the inside is pretty spacious too, so it worked well for a family visit.

Since it's near Palgongsan, I imagine the outdoor seating has great vibes on a nice-weather day too.

We ordered the platter so we could try several kinds of barbecue at once.

We got the Memphis platter for two. The moment it arrived it looked more generous than I expected, so the presentation alone won me over haha. Since it had several kinds of barbecue on one plate, it was great for two people to split and share.

The meat pulled apart softly and had a subtle smoky flavor — a different feel from the meat I usually eat! I especially like trying a little of each kind rather than sticking to one meat the whole time, so the platter format worked well for me. Eating it alongside the sides also made it much less greasy than eating meat alone.

From brisket to spare ribs to pulled pork, it was a bit different from the meats I usually eat, so it was fun trying one after another. The subtle smoky flavor especially will win over anyone who loves meat!

Dinner rolls, tortillas and the self-serve side bar at Modak

Wrapping the meat and veggies in the provided dinner rolls was so good💗 Stuffing tortillas or bread with meat, veggies, and sauce was tasty too haha. I found it oddly fun mixing and matching combinations like this.

Eating meat nonstop can get a bit greasy, but the salad, fries, and coleslaw that came with it let me mix things up along the way, which worked well. If you run low on sides while eating, you can grab more from the self-serve bar by the counter.

Why Modak Texas Barbecue works with young kids

Going with my child, it was nice that besides barbecue there were menu items like pasta and rice, so it was easy to order something for the kid too. After finishing the meal, they give you marshmallows, and since we could toast them outdoors, my kid had a blast right to the very end.

Every table in the outdoor area had a mosquito net, and there were even large fans set up — such a thoughtful touch 👍

There's group seating too, so it's great for several people to go together and order one platter to share.

If you're out on a Palgongsan drive and craving something a bit different from the usual samgyeopsal (pork belly) or Korean food, this could be a fun stop for a good meal if you're planning an outing to Palgongsan :)

Parking, location and pairing Modak with Ashia Polis shopping

The outdoor parking area is fairly spacious, so it was convenient to visit by car. Parking around Palgongsan can sometimes be a hassle, but here I could pull in without worrying about it at all :) When you're moving around with a kid like we were, easy parking matters more than you'd think haha.

The location was good too. It's just the right distance from Ashia Polis, so it's easy to shop there first and then come here to eat — a nice combo course. Spending time with the kid at Ashia Polis, then heading over to Palgongsan for barbecue in the evening followed by a drive, would make for a solid weekend day trip.

Especially on a nice day, you can use the outdoor space too, which seems great for a relaxed family meal. We had the Memphis platter for two that day, and with easy parking and good accessibility, it was a great spot to pair with an Ashia Polis shopping trip and a Palgongsan meal :)
