I want to introduce a great Chinese restaurant in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu that I visited with high expectations after hearing so much good buzz. It's Gyeryonggak, a long-established Chinese restaurant in Sincheon-dong that's been earning its reputation for a while now. I love hunting down good Chinese food, so I made a special trip this time, and the lard ganjajang review that follows turned out to be more satisfying than I expected.

What do the exterior and dining room at Gyeryonggak in Sincheon-dong look like?
Located in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, Gyeryonggak has a modern, clean exterior that stands out even from a distance.

Step inside and you'll find a pleasant, sleek hall in white and wood tones! Along the window there are neat single-person table seats, great for eating solo or enjoying the view outside while you dine.

The whole place felt meticulously clean, and there's a tidy self-serve corner off to one side where you can freely refill pickled radish and raw onion. Above the self-serve bar sits a display of various Chinese liquors, which adds even more to that distinctive Chinese-restaurant atmosphere!

Gyeryonggak menu prices and the open kitchen
Gyeryonggak is a great-value Chinese restaurant, with jjajangmyeon starting at a cash price of ₩6,500. Banners announcing a customer appreciation discount event are posted at the entrance and around the store, and the prices really are excellent.

With jjajangmyeon starting at a cash price of ₩6,500, you can also enjoy spicy jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), fried rice, and mini sweet and sour pork without breaking the bank, and drink prices are low too, so it looks great for a casual drink alongside your meal.

What really stands out is the open kitchen structure — you can see straight into it from the hall, and watch the chef gripping the wok and sending up dramatic flames while cooking. Seeing the lively scene of real Chinese cooking, full of that smoky wok-fire aroma, only built my trust and excitement about the food even more.
How does the lard ganjajang at Gyeryonggak taste?
Gyeryonggak's signature specialty is the lard ganjajang. It's served the moment it's freshly stir-fried, with the sauce and the springy noodles brought out separately.

A moment later, the lard ganjajang I'd been waiting for arrived. On top of the noodles sat a neat topping of nutty sesame seeds and a cute slice of quail egg.

The sauce, made by stir-frying chunjang (black bean paste), fresh onion, and meat in lard, had a glossy sheen that already looked different from the usual.

I poured plenty of sauce over the noodles and mixed it all together, and the rich, deep, nutty aroma of the lard hit my nose right away. The sauce clung tightly to the noodles instead of just sitting on top, giving off a mouthwatering brown color.

One big bite delivered a deep, rich savoriness on a totally different level from jjajangmyeon fried in regular cooking oil. The fresh onion kept a slight crunch without turning mushy, adding a nice bit of texture, and there was none of the usual jjajang heaviness — just a clean yet weighty nuttiness filling my mouth. The noodles stayed chewy without going limp, so I enjoyed it right to the last bite.
Is Gyeryonggak worth it for Chinese food in Sincheon-dong?
Experiencing it firsthand, I understood exactly why people looking for proper jjajangmyeon or good Chinese cooking in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu keep coming back here. With its sleek atmosphere, excellent taste, and great value all in one place, Gyeryonggak is a must-visit for anyone who loves Chinese food. I especially recommend the lard ganjajang, packed with wok-fire aroma and nutty flavor. It's the kind of great place that already makes me want to come back and try the other dishes on the menu.
