Yeouido gyukatsu with extra meat and mini curry sauce: Hurato Sikdang

In short

Hurato Sikdang Yeouido is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) restaurant on the 3rd floor of Yeouido Finance Tower in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. A couple visited on a weekday evening and ordered gyukatsu for two plus one extra meat portion and a mini curry sauce, and because each diner gets their own small brazier, the beef grilled easily without sticking to the plate. Fresh wasabi cut the richness, and the pair called Hurato Sikdang the clear top pick for gyukatsu in Yeouido.

These days my husband and I are completely hooked on gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet). I'm not usually a big fan of Japanese food, but this meat-loving palate of ours got totally won over by gyukatsu — it's just so good. Today I'm writing up our weekday dinner review of a Yeouido station favorite that does gyukatsu as its signature dish: Hurato Sikdang Yeouido.

Where is Hurato Sikdang Yeouido, and what are its hours?

Hurato Sikdang Yeouido is located on the 3rd floor of Yeouido Finance Tower. Weekday hours are 11:00–21:00 (break time 14:30–17:00), and weekend hours are 11:30–21:30 (break time 15:00–17:30).

Since Hurato Sikdang Yeouido operates normally on weekends too, it seems like a great pick for couples on a date at IFC Mall or The Hyundai Seoul, or friends grabbing a meal together while out and about. Parking is available in the building's parking lot.

Inside Hurato Sikdang: seating, and is solo dining okay?

Walking in, the space at Hurato Sikdang Yeouido was much bigger than I expected. There's a range of seating — counter seats, tables for two, tables for four — so it seemed like a comfortable place to eat solo, too. In fact, when I visited, there were quite a few office workers stopping in on their own for dinner after work.

Besides its signature gyukatsu, Hurato Sikdang Yeouido has a range of menu items including a steak set, omurice, and beef belly deopbap (rice bowl). First up, my husband's dish — gyukatsu with extra meat. Wow, so hearty looking, right? Unlike other gyukatsu places, Hurato gives each person their own individual brazier, which made it noticeably easier to eat. The meat didn't stick to the grill at all, so we got to enjoy it fully.

How the mini curry sauce tastes with the gyukatsu

I got the basic gyukatsu and added the mini curry sauce beforehand. Mixing the rice that comes with gyukatsu together with the curry sauce is just heavenly.

Overall, you could tell the food was made with fresh, good-quality ingredients. Fresh wasabi came out too, and putting it on the gyukatsu cut through the richness — it paired really well.

It was so good that halfway through eating, I actually thought, "I should've gotten extra meat too..." — that's how much I enjoyed Hurato's gyukatsu.
