Suwon Ingye-dong Korean BBQ: 770g order for two at Jipbul Taebaek

In short

Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is a straw- and charcoal-fired Korean BBQ restaurant that opened in July on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, Suwon. Two diners ordered 2 servings of prime rib and 1 serving of straw-fired pork belly (770g of meat in total) plus triple cheese steamed egg and Taebaek kimchi stew, then received a rib-bone meat refill and nearly could not finish it. The tableside grilling by staff at Jipbul Taebaek made the meal easy, and for two people 2 servings of prime rib with just one side dish is the right amount.

A must-visit on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong A must-visit BBQ spot in Ingye-dong

Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch

Meat is the reason I've been gaining weight lately!!! I love meat so much I have to hit a BBQ restaurant at least once or twice a week, and this time I went to the newly opened Jipbul Taebaek in Ingye-dong! Apparently it's a place where you can try meat that's pre-grilled over rice straw, and since I already love prime rib, there was no way I could skip it. Here's my review after thoroughly enjoying everything from prime rib to straw-fired pork belly to side dishes!

I visited while looking for a must-visit spot on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, and I was excited about trying meat pre-grilled over rice straw and charcoal hahaha They also sell a straw-grilled Korean set meal (baekban) at lunch. A set meal at a BBQ restaurant... might be nice to come for lunch too!!

Inside Jipbul Taebaek: about 70 seats for group dinners and dates

Walking inside, the space was bigger than I expected, with tables laid out with plenty of room. Everything felt clean, as you'd expect from a newly opened place, and I liked that the spacing between tables was generous! With room for about 70 people, it seems great for group get-togethers, company dinners in Ingye-dong, or even a date spot in Ingye-dong. And best of all, since staff grill the meat for you, you can eat comfortably haha.

Jipbul Taebaek signature menu and prices

Jipbul Taebaek's signature dishes are prime rib and straw-fired pork belly! Apparently the prime rib uses cuts 6 through 8, known as the tastiest part of the flower-pattern short rib. They also sell pork belly and pork collar pre-grilled over rice straw for extra flavor, so you can order according to your taste.

What two people ordered: 770g of meat

Here's what we ordered for two haha 2 servings of prime rib 1 serving of straw-fired pork belly Triple cheese steamed egg Taebaek kimchi stew 2 rice / drinks Just the meat came to 770g, which was already a lot, and once we added the sides too, FYI we were stuffed. We almost ordered cold noodles too but gave up.

Self-serve corner with ssam wraps, garlic, and oil-salt

For any ssam wraps, garlic, or oil-salt not included in the basic table setting, just use the self-serve corner!

Charcoal brazier brought to the table

Side dishes and sauces that come with the meal

Once the charcoal came out, the basic side dishes arrived, and wow, there really was a huge variety.

Round plate with six kinds of basic side dishes and sauces

A big round plate came out with japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), radish salad, green onion kimchi, potato salad, dressed lettuce, and seasoned dried radish greens among other side dishes — the variety was really impressive! What especially caught my eye were the sauces to pair with the meat! Black sesame salt, the house ssamjang, wasabi, sigan-jang (time-aged soy sauce), and the distinctive angelica pesto (green) and neungi mushroom pesto (brown) all came out!! With so many options, I could pair things to my taste. Isn't this seriously generous hahaha

Triple cheese steamed egg and Taebaek kimchi stew

The triple cheese steamed egg was insane. They top it with all kinds of cheese, and it's super fluffy — the cheese stretches with every bite... Maybe because it has three kinds of cheese in it, it tastes much nuttier and richer than regular steamed egg! We both agreed it was a good call ordering it 👍👍

Next we needed a stew to go with the meat, so we ordered one! Honestly I don't eat cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), so I picked the Taebaek kimchi stew instead, but the broth was spicy and rich, so my friend tried it and said she could eat a whole bowl of rice with just this and no meat, then ordered an extra bowl of rice lol A great side to alternate with the meat so you never get tired of it — never a greasy moment!

Straw-fired, smoked meat and the tableside grilling service

Finally, the meat we'd been waiting for showed up! At Jipbul Taebaek, the kitchen pre-grills and smokes the meat over rice straw and charcoal, then grills it once more at your table — the subtle straw-fire aroma added a different charm compared to regular charcoal grilling! If you're looking for straw-fire grilling in Ingye-dong, I'd recommend trying the prime rib and straw-fired pork belly together haha.

Ta-da, here's the pre-grilled and smoked meat!!!!! Wow, I figured the prime rib alone wouldn't fill us up so we also ordered pork belly, but the portion was massive.. haha

First they added kimchi and bracken fern on top

Jipbul Taebaek's strength! The tableside grilling service! Experienced staff grill it right at the perfect moment, so all we had to do was eat comfortably hahaha This kind of grilling service is just amazing...💛

Straw-fired pork belly grilling over the brazier

Straw-fired pork belly: start with the black sesame salt

First I tried the thick-cut straw-fired pork belly! The outside was grilled to a golden brown while the inside stayed juicy — the more I chewed, the more the juices and nutty flavor came through, ugh.

Pork belly paired with dressed lettuce and bracken fern

They told us to dip the pork belly in black sesame salt first — it wasn't salty at all, just nutty and a real treat!!! Paired with the dressed lettuce and bracken fern, pork belly really is delicious with any pairing haha.

Prime rib with rice cake wraps, soy-bean powder dip and neungi mushroom pesto

Next up, the prime rib arrives haha

Prime rib separated and cut from the rib bone

The staff separated the meat off the large rib bone and cut it into bite-sized pieces before grilling it! Such a clean, pretty cut haha.

They placed the grilled meat right on top of the rib bone!!! The prime rib, golden on the outside and juicy on the inside, delivered a nutty richness with every bite ❤

Grilled prime rib placed atop the rib bone

We first tried it dipped in the sigan-jang recommended by the staff — savory and just right for enjoying the meat's natural flavor!

A piece of prime rib dipped in sigan-jang

What was especially fun this time was that there were so many ways to enjoy the prime rib! They showed us how to top a grilled rice cake wrap with kimchi and meat, plus add sigan-jang bean powder. At first I wondered if rice cake and meat would even go together, but the combo of chewy rice cake and tender meat turned out way better than expected!!! Add kimchi on top and it's not greasy at all — absolutely delicious.

Prime rib topped with neungi mushroom pesto

They recommended the neungi mushroom pesto for the prime rib, and even though I actually dislike mushrooms, I tried it and it had a truffle-like richness!!!!! So good I kept piling it on haha The sigan-jang with wasabi combo was delicious too — there were so many pairings to try that I never even got around to the ssam wraps ㅠㅠ

A second round of grilling with the rib-bone meat

While we were deep into eating, the staff came by and stripped off every bit of meat still left on the rib bones. I'd completely forgotten about that..

Wow, that much meat came off And they grilled it all again for us ㅠㅠ💛

Second round of rib-bone meat being grilled

Yep, another meat refill happened haha I already thought I'd eaten quite a lot of meat, but I was surprised by how much meat had been stuck on the bone — pure happiness💛

Final grilled prime rib including the tendon-rich cut

They explained beforehand that this cut has tendon and can be a bit chewy, but thanks to how well it was grilled, we happily finished off even that leftover meat! haha

Especially the sigan-jang + bean powder combo — truly amazing, absolutely perfect.

How much to order at Jipbul Taebaek if you visit as a pair

Yep, we cleaned our plates today too But honestly, the portions today were seriously huge.. We're pretty good eaters but more meat kept coming and we almost couldn't finish it all ㅠㅠ

For most visits with two people, I'd recommend ordering just one set of 2 servings of prime rib, or sticking to just 1 side dish haha.

Is Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch worth it? Final verdict

We had a great time enjoying the prime rib and straw-fired pork belly at Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch! Because the meat is pre-grilled and smoked over rice straw and charcoal, the subtle straw-fire aroma made it even more delicious, and having staff grill it for us made the meal so easy to enjoy haha. It was especially fun eating here because they recommended so many different sauces and pairings — I'd never had rice cake wraps with prime rib before, but it was so good it really stuck with me! From the basic side dishes to the extra sides, everything was generous and delicious, so next time I'd love to try other meat menu items too. If you're looking for a must-visit restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, or a BBQ place where staff grill for you, I highly recommend Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch 👍
