On a day when I suddenly craved sashimi but couldn't be bothered to go far, I headed to Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch, a place I'd passed by near Yeonsu Station many times.

Where is Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch, and how do you get there from Yeonsu Station?
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is located on the 3rd floor, Unit 202-1, Yeonsu Square Plaza, 106 Beotkkotro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, South Korea. Since it's on the third floor, I wondered at first 'is this really the place?', but as soon as you step off the elevator and turn right, it's right there, so there's no chance of getting lost. There's a gym my friends often go to in this building, so I felt oddly happy about that haha.
The dining hall was huge and spotless! There were also a ton of people.

What side dishes come free, and how does the self-serve kimchi pancake bar work?
Not long after ordering at Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch, the basic side dishes (sukkidashi) get laid out, and honestly, my mood improved right at this point. It wasn't just corn mayo, salad, salted pollock roe, quail eggs, and lettuce wraps thrown together for show — each one felt worth reaching for.

You can grill the pancake (jeon) yourself at the self-serve bar. Waiting while it sizzles away, then popping a freshly grilled piece straight into your mouth... it really opens up your appetite before the sashimi arrives. Haha, personally this kimchijeon was seriously delicious.

Flounder sashimi at 23,000 won per person: how big is the portion?
🩵Flounder sashimi (₩23,000 solo)

Honestly, I ordered a solo portion thinking 'how much could there really be,' but I was surprised when the plate arrived. It's a portion size that makes you double-check if this is really meant for one person!

The slices are cut thick, so you can feel the weight the moment you pick up a piece. The chewy texture stays fully intact when you bite into it — that springy bite fans of sashimi love. There's no watered-down blandness at all.

The fin meat in particular had that unique texture and flavor 🤤🤤 So good I nearly fainted. At ₩23,000 for this amount, I'd say the value for money is pretty solid too.
Salmon sushi at 16,000 won: the best dish of the visit
🩵Salmon sushi (₩16,000)

The moment it arrived, glistening with shine, I took photos first thing. Under the lighting, the surface of the salmon looked so glossy — you could tell right away it was fresh.

One bite in and the quality was genuinely amazing. It went down smoothly together with the rice, with zero fishy smell and only that nutty richness left behind. Personally, this salmon sushi left a bigger impression on me that day than the flounder sashimi. I'm definitely ordering this again next time! I already love salmon sushi in general, but the salmon here was even thicker and fattier — absolute honey flavor.
Self-serve ice cream to finish the meal
At Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch, you can scoop your own ice cream after the meal. A cool scoop of ice cream to cleanse the palate after sashimi makes for a clean finish. That tri-color ice cream brought back memories.

It's a small touch, but having something like this just makes you feel good. Next time I'm coming back for the grilled shrimp 🦐

Walking out after paying, I glanced at the menu board again and the shrimp menu caught my eye. Just thinking about shrimp grilling on salt already had me drooling, so I even took a photo of the menu board to make sure I wouldn't forget. I'm definitely coming back for the grilled shrimp next time.
Is Veteran General Fish Market in Yeonsu worth a visit?
- The basic side dishes are generous, and grilling your own pancake at the self-serve bar is fun
- The flounder sashimi portion is huge for a solo order, with a chewy texture
- The salmon sushi is satisfying in both shine and quality
- You can even help yourself to ice cream for dessert
If you're craving sashimi and can't decide where to go, give this a try as your go-to sashimi restaurant near Yeonsu Station in Yeonsu-dong. I'll be back soon for the grilled shrimp haha.
