Bangi-dong 24-hour soup restaurant, after-work feast: Boseung Hoegwan

In short

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a 24-hour sundaeguk (pork and blood sausage soup) restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley beside the east pond of Seokchon Lake in Songpa, Seoul. To feed a friend worn out from working late, the writer ordered the pork jowl set — sundaeguk, pork gukbap and a pork-and-sundae hot pot — plus a heaping bowl of rice and an extra order of chives that became a chive soup. Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch delivered more satisfaction than any brunch or course meal.

What kind of place is Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch?

Boseung Hoegwan is a brand from Boseung Food, a company with over 40 years of history distributing sundae (Korean blood sausage). Is that guarantee-pun okay? Anyway, Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a Bangi-dong sundaeguk favorite.

I didn't know this until I was researching for this review, but they have several branches — Jamsilsaenae, Bangi. The Bangi branch sits right in the food alley beside Seokchon Lake's east pond. It's open a whopping 24 hours, so you can even get a full gukbap breakfast.

Why we came: a late dinner for a friend stuck working overtime

I have to feed my friend who's working overtime

A friend of mine living near Jamsil — I hadn't seen her face in ages. Whenever I asked how she was, the answer was always work. Work. Work... For what?! Isn't work supposed to be so you can eat properly?! And she couldn't even eat properly!!

A situation no Korean can tolerate.

So easy to find! Everyone knows the Mega Coffee by Seokchon Lake's east pond — it's right next to it, on the ground floor. Open 24 hours every day, incredible.

Inside Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch and what's on the menu

A restaurant running nonstop, yet spotlessly clean — with plenty of hot pot and drinking-food options beyond the regular meals.

Sundae gukbap is the main dish here, but pork gukbap and intestine gukbap both come with a spicy option. There's also bone-in hangover soup, samgyetang, sulguk, and pyeonyuk, so you can cure a hangover any time.

If someone can't eat pork, you can just order samgyetang together.

The seasoning sauce and perilla powder come pre-added in a reasonable amount. Speak up beforehand if you don't want them. If you're the type who needs sliced garlic and onion, just ask the staff — they're extremely kind about it.

The pork jowl set: sundaeguk, pork gukbap and hot pot in one order

Since I had to feed my hungry friend properly, I ordered the pork jowl set. It comes with sundaeguk, a choice of two pork gukbap styles, plus a pork and sundae hot pot. Genuinely stuff-yourself-full territory.

Eating the intestines, you miss the sundae. Eating the sundae, you miss the pork. This set covers everything.

Hot pot filled with pork and sundae
Pork bone hot pot bubbling away

Even for two people, three grown men could probably eat this. The seasoning was just right — I never needed to ask for more broth or extra salted shrimp. In that bubbling pork bone broth, friend, may your fatigue be washed away and your stomach soothed... you've still got a Sunday shift ahead! (How does one live like this)

Two bowls of sundaeguk and pork gukbap

A heaping bowl of rice and an extra order of chives

One notable thing: the rice really is a towering mound. Packed down so firmly that next time I want to say in advance, 'do you have a smaller portion?'

A tightly packed mound of rice

Personally I'm more of a vegetable person than a carb person, so I added extra chives and turned it into chive soup. The kimchi is top-tier too. A company that's made only sundae for 40 years really is different. Thank you for letting me eat a gukbap this good, 24 hours a day, right in the middle of Jamsil.

Scoop up the soup Dip the pork in salted shrimp You've got to try the sundae too And pair it with kimchi Busy busy busy.

Final verdict on Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch

It was genuinely warm and comforting. I've been eating a lot of fancy things lately — course meals, brunch, that sort of thing — and it's a little concerning that a bowl of sundaeguk gave me more satisfaction than any of that... Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch.

A walk around Seokchon Lake after the meal

Afterward we took a walk around Seokchon Lake. Since Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is right next to the lake's east pond, it's perfect for walking straight off the meal.

Worth noting: there's a Chuseok event at Seokchon Lake, with an outdoor pansori performance!
