Suseong Lake restaurant with a seasonal banchan self-bar: Geumdeungeo
In short
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a nuruk-cured wood-fired mackerel restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Deulan-ro food town in Suseong-gu, Daegu, near Suseong Lake. We ordered wood-fired grilled mackerel for three, flame-grilled spicy pork, and a generous cockle salad, then helped ourselves to japchae, namul, kimchi and salad from the seasonal banchan self-bar, split between a warm section and a chilled showcase. With a hall of floor-to-ceiling windows, partitioned group seating and 90 minutes of free parking, Geumdeungeo suits family meals and get-togethers.

Today I'm introducing 'Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch' located in Deulanguil~~! 🐟

Geumdeungeo is a nuruk-cured, wood-fired mackerel specialist that started from thinking hard about healthy ingredients and a proper meal! Their signature mackerel is cured in nuruk salt made with rice yeast, then grilled in a 450-degree wood-fired oven. You get to enjoy the main dish alongside neat seasonal banchan (side dishes) in a semi-course Korean set-meal style, so it's also a great match if you're looking for a Deulanguil hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) place to visit with your parents haha. With a spacious hall and separate private spaces, it's also great for a Daegu family meal or Daegu gathering spot — let me introduce Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch right now,,🤍

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is located in the Deulanguil food town! It's on the 2nd floor of the building, and you can ride the elevator up easily.

It's also close to Suseong Lake, so it was a great Suseong Lake restaurant for a walk or café before or after the meal haha.
You can use the 1st floor parking lot and parking tower, and there was staff helping guide parking, so it was convenient to visit by car 🚗

When you're doing a Daegu family meal with parents or kids, inconvenient parking can exhaust you before you even start, so having 90 minutes of free parking was really nice!
Inside Geumdeungeo: window-lined hall and partitioned group seating
Walking into the restaurant, the high ceilings and spacious layout were the first thing that caught my eye!
Thanks to the natural light coming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, everything felt bright and open overall, and the tables were spaced generously.
From window seats to group tables to curtained private spaces, it was easy to find something that fit your group size and purpose.
Not just for family meals, but it also seemed good for those looking for a Daegu gathering spot for company dinners or various get-togethers.
*If you're planning to visit with several people, I recommend booking in advance before your preferred time and seats fill up 📞
What's on the menu at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil
At Geumdeungeo you can find a variety of Korean dishes alongside the nuruk-cured wood-fired mackerel, including stir-fried pork and cockle salad :)

With everything from main dishes to sides prepared in variety, it was a great Deulanguil restaurant to visit with a group and share according to everyone's taste.
Seaweed, seed jeotgal and the basic banchan spread
Seaweed, seasoned fish roe, and salad — all neatly prepared to go with the mackerel!

A variety of neat basic banchan were also laid out, and it was fun picking and choosing alongside the main dish hahaa.

🥢 How does the seasonal banchan self-bar work?
Geumdeungeo also runs a seasonal banchan self-bar you can enjoy alongside the main dishes.
It was convenient to use since the warm banchan and the banchan kept neatly in the refrigerated showcase were separated.
You can freely help yourself to as much japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), namul (seasoned vegetables), kimchi, salad and other rice-friendly banchan as you need!
The full table: mackerel for three, spicy pork and cockle salad
- Wood-fired grilled mackerel, 3 servings
- Charcoal-grilled stir-fried pork
- Generous cockle salad
Three servings of wood-fired grilled mackerel plus stir-fried pork and cockle salad filled the table generously 🤍 With fish, meat, and seafood all in one spread, it's a lineup that would satisfy families with different tastes!

With the neat banchan added, it felt as hearty as a full Korean set meal — the kind of spread that made me want to finish a whole bowl of rice just looking at it hahaa.
🐟 Wood-fired grilled mackerel for three
The mackerel, grilled to a golden brown, had crispy skin and moist, tender flesh with no fishy taste, just clean flavor!

The flesh was thick and the bones were already removed, so there were almost no small bones, making it easy to eat hahaa.
You can see why it's called Geumdeungeo hahaha.
Wrapping warm rice and mackerel in seaweed doubled the savory flavor, and it went really well together 🤍

Adding a bit of seasoned fish roe on top brings a crunchy texture and salty umami — a total rice thief,,🥹
❤️🔥 Flame-grilled spicy pork (jeyuk bokkeum)
The stir-fried pork with a subtle charcoal aroma had spicy-sweet sauce soaked into the meat perfectly — so good!
The meat wasn't tough and was tender enough that I kept reaching for more, and it was also nice to eat alongside the clean-tasting mackerel.

Wrapping rice and stir-fried pork with perilla leaves made for an unbeatable combination ❤️🔥
🐚 Generous cockle salad (kkomak muchim)
The plump cockles were evenly coated in a spicy-tangy sauce that really woke up the appetite!
The chewy cockles and crunchy vegetables together made for great texture, and the portion was more generous than I expected.

It's delicious on its own, but piling it onto rice and mixing it in makes you scrape up every bit of sauce — a truly addictive rice thief hahaha.
☕ Finishing with dessert and coffee
After the meal, we finished off with barley gangjeong (sweet rice snack), coffee, and apricot juice for a sweet and clean finish 🤎
