Hi, this is Hami. Starting this post with a straight-up Doraemon fist bump haha.. today I'm introducing my go-to spot⭐️⭐️⭐️ in Mangwon-dong, Boulangerie Copain.
See the date? Back in college, going to Mangwon-dong every weekend was my routine.. doing a full bread tour there was my joy. I used to come here a lot for the baguette and onion bagel, and I suddenly craved that onion bagel again, so here I am!

Where Boulangerie Copain is, its hours and how to get there
Boulangerie Copain (블랑제리코팡) is a bakery in Mangwon-dong at 115 Huiujeong-ro, 1st floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's a bit of a walk from Mangwon Station, so it's best to take Mapo bus 16 and get off at Hwapyeong Church. You can smell the bread from the street already..
Open daily 10:00–22:00, no separate parking lot.

This bakery was even featured as a baguette and croissant master on the show Master in the House.

Delivery through Baemin and Coupang Eats works too. It's close to Mangwon Hangang Park, so grabbing some to go or ordering delivery works great 🙂 Visit in the evening and you can catch the time sale too.

What time do the baguettes come out? The 10am opening run
Boulangerie Copain's baguette comes out right at the 10am opening. I remember Sogeumjip's jambon-beurre used to use this bakery's baguette too. Genuinely delicious.

I stormed in right at opening and the owner was busy restocking the shelves. Pain de mie, danish, croissant, baguette, sandwiches, basil crunch, pain suisse, financiers, and more, all freshly baked.

This is the master's croissant. You can just tell by looking at it that it's got that shattering crisp texture.
There was also campagne and salt bread. Since they'd just come out, the smell was ridiculous.. it's a shame a blog can't capture scent.

Looks like the cream breads in the fridge case hadn't come out yet. The palmier here is delicious too, in a really refined way. So here's what I ended up picking.

Four breads picked up at Boulangerie Copain
At Boulangerie Copain, the basil crunch is a must the moment you walk in. Honestly they should just tape one to every customer's parchment paper. You've got to grab a croissant too, and today I was craving the raspberry almond croissant, so that's what I picked.

The baguette sandwiches are also great. The baguette itself is so good that whatever they do with it tastes amazing. I picked the fig cream cheese baguette — kind of a seasonal pick ^^

For the plain baguette, just tell them the quantity at checkout. Apparently it's one of Seoul's top 11 baguettes. I got a plain baguette along with the onion cream cheese sauce for dipping — that's the same sauce used in the basil crunch, and it's seriously addictive.

Baguette cutting service at Boulangerie Copain
Only the menu items listed above can be cut. I got the baguette and basil crunch cut, and asked for the baguette to be cut into quarters since I planned to make sandwiches haha.

There's coffee and a few drink options too. I couldn't order since I had a bus to catch, but ordering an Americano and eating a fresh baguette while walking would genuinely be happiness 🥖🥖🥖

The bread smell kept wafting out of the bag.. driver, it's okay if I sniff it, right? ㅠㅠ
How they tasted: fig cream cheese baguette and basil crunch
The fig cream cheese baguette had figs lightly stewed in wine, which paired really well with the cream cheese.

The baguette itself is quite moist and has a lot of moisture in it. On its own it tastes really clean and nutty. The onion cream cheese sauce has thick cream cheese with bits of onion for crunch — the kick. Great for dipping the baguette, or honestly great for dipping anything, an all-purpose sauce~~

Here comes the basil crunch.. the cream is great and all, but the bread texture is genuinely crisp — try a piece right when it's fresh out. Fragrant basil paired with onion cream cheese, top combo🫶🏻
The raspberry almond croissant has an almond cream coating on the outside that's genuinely crispy and nutty. The nutty bite is great, and inside there's a tangy raspberry filling that balances everything out.
What to buy on a Mangwon-dong bakery crawl
A lot of people come here on Mangwon-dong bakery tours too — if you come to Boulangerie Copain, definitely grab the basil crunch and baguette first. Since it's the master's croissant, grab whichever croissant you're craving too. There are sandwich items as well, so it's great for a simple meal. I'm just jealous of people who live nearby..
