Cocktail bar in Haenggung-dong, Suwon for a Midori Shower: Ryu-eun

In short

Ryu-eun is a fusion Korean bar and traditional-liquor house set in a renovated home off Sinpung-ro in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. Stopping by Ryu-eun for a second round after an evening in Haenggung-dong, the writer paired hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef) and honey tomato with a Midori Shower and a Peach Crush cocktail, and enjoyed both the yukhoe wrapped in gamtae seaweed and the flower-topped drinks. Ryu-eun is a fine place for an atmospheric late-night glass.

I was out and about in Haenggung-dong and stopped by a bar I wanted to share. Haenggung-dong has so many pretty cafés and good restaurants, but when it gets late you start wondering — isn't there somewhere with a bit of atmosphere for a drink???

That's when I visited Ryu-eun, a place that delivers on both mood and taste. Let me introduce it~

Where is Ryu-eun, and what are its hours?

Ryu-eun really has that renovated-house feel so specific to Haenggung-dong! Even before stepping inside, the cozy, stylish look already had me excited haha.

Inside Ryu-eun: 1st floor, 2nd floor and terrace seating

Ryu-eun has both a 1st and 2nd floor, plus outdoor terrace seating. The inside looks like this.

The 1st floor is comfortable too, but the 2nd floor has a big chandelier that makes the mood even better!!

The terrace seating outside looks like this, and it's got so much atmosphere too, it's really pretty!!! With outdoor drinking spots trending these days and the weather being nice, I think it'd be great to soak up that late-summer, early-autumn feeling out here haha!!

Overall, Ryu-eun isn't overly loud, and thanks to the emotional interior it's perfect for a date, or for catching up with friends over good food. The tables aren't cramped together either, so you can relax and take your time~

By the way, the restroom inside the shop is on the 2nd floor~

What to order at Ryu-eun

Traditional liquor and cocktail menu at Ryu-eun

Ryu-eun has a fusion Korean bar vibe, so there were so many delicious food-based dishes on the menu. The spicy hanwoo daedoritang (braised beef stew) is famous, and the gamtae (seaweed) pasta is a unique dish you can only get here, so that's popular too!! You could easily come for a meal and drinks both — all the food-based dishes looked great haha.

Since I was here for a second round, I ordered something simple to enjoy with drinks — hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef) and honey tomato!

The hanwoo yukhoe came out first!! Since it's hanwoo (Korean beef), the raw beef was fresh and well seasoned. And instead of gim (dried laver), it comes with gamtae to wrap it in, which made it taste even more upscale. It came with black sesame sauce too, and eating it together was nutty and full of flavor!

Ryu-eun cocktails: Midori Shower and Peach Crush

There were so many delicious traditional-liquor-based drinks on the menu. But I was in the mood for cocktails that day, so I ordered a Midori Shower and a Peach Crush.

Midori Shower cocktail topped with lemon

The Midori Shower has lemon in it, so it's refreshing and sweet, with a pleasant carbonated lift — a really crisp drink. It looked beautiful too, and paired great with the food haha.

Two-layered Peach Crush cocktail

This one is the Peach Crush. With red cranberry juice and peach liqueur, it had a sweeter feel. The color was more vivid too, so I'd say it looked even prettier haha. You just mix the two layers together to drink it!

Ryu-eun's cocktails come decorated with flowers and other touches, so it's a great place to come when you're in the mood to treat yourself haha.

Ryu-eun's honey tomato topped with sugar powder

Honey tomato, the palate cleanser at Ryu-eun

Once we'd pretty much finished eating, I wanted something light to cleanse the palate, so I ordered the honey tomato! This came out looking so pretty too haha. They drizzle honey over the tomato and finish it with a light dusting of sugar powder, so it was just right for something sweet. You can order it in a cocktail glass size, or in a bowl if you want more.

Ryu-eun is a great place to end a day out in Haenggung-dong with a drink and good atmosphere! The mood, the drinks, the food — nothing fell short, and I was really satisfied~ haha. If you're ever in Haenggung-dong, make sure to check out Ryu-eun, this Korean bar!!
