Jamsil patio bar with yagwanmun-ju and potato pancake: Daegang

In short

Daegang is an aged-sashimi bar with an outdoor patio (yajang) at the entrance to Songni-dan-gil, right beside Seokchon Lake in Songpa, Seoul. A family of five sat at an outdoor table and ordered assorted aged sashimi, flounder sesame-oil gimbap (seaweed rice roll), corn cheese and a potato pancake, along with a shot of the owner's homemade yagwanmun-ju infused liquor. The writer was pregnant and only watched the drinks being poured, but still found the potato pancake and sashimi alone worth the night out at Daegang.

So today, for the first time on my blog, I'm writing a restaurant post! As the weather cools down, more and more outdoor patio bars (yajang) are popping up around Songni-dan-gil, and I went to Daegang, a Jamsil restaurant famous for having the best patio vibe and aged sashimi around. Daegang was already well known for its aged sashimi, but now that the weather's gotten nicer too, the crowds have gotten seriously big haha.

Where is Daegang? Songni-dan-gil entrance by Seokchon Lake

Daegang is an outdoor aged-sashimi bar you run into right as you walk from Seokchon Lake into the start of Songni-dan-gil. It's not tucked deep into the alley — it's right at the very entrance, so it's easy to find.

Even from a distance you can feel the good vibe radiating off it haha. It's also a great spot if you're doing a Seokchon Lake date!

You can see Daegang's location on the map right? It's right near the lake, just one block past the main strip of Songni-dan-gil haha. Personally I love the main alley too, but I find the side alley one over feels a bit cozier and has better atmosphere!

What are Daegang's outdoor patio and indoor seating like?

Daegang's outdoor patio has a really large yard with quite a lot of tables, so the wait wasn't too long. They also had a good variety of seasonal sashimi, and apparently the head chef personally picks out the best catch depending on the season!

Of course, since I wanted to enjoy the fine dust-free, clear and cool day, I went to Daegang the patio spot specifically to grab an outdoor table. But Daegang's interior is also really full of character! It's mostly Dutch tables, which made it great for dates, and you could even watch them cooking right in front of you haha.

It has this upscale-yet-old-school pojangmacha (street tent bar) feel that makes it even more endearing, and even the music, haha, they played a lot of the K-pop songs I used to listen to back in school, which made it the perfect setting for a bite of sashimi with a shot of soju!

Drinks at Daegang and the homemade yagwanmun-ju shot

Ordering at Daegang was easy via QR code right at the table! Since there were five of us, I ordered a bunch of different food, but first! We ordered draft beer and Gangsoe, which I love and can get at Daegang, haha.

But since I'm pregnant, I just watched the drinks — the rest of my family enjoyed a cold one each haha.

Daegang had a wide variety of liquors, and among them quite a few were homemade infused liquors the owner brews himself! There was even yagwanmun-ju, said to be good for stamina, available by the shot at a very cheap price, so I had one!

Daegang menu and taste: corn cheese, assorted aged sashimi, flounder sesame-oil gimbap

And here comes the food, one by one. First up was the corn cheese — and wow, this one!!! The cheese stretched out in these long, gooey pulls, and it disappeared instantly as the perfect appetizer, haha.

Next up is Daegang's signature dish, the assorted aged sashimi. They apparently use their own aging technique to keep it very fresh and clean-tasting! Maybe that's why it had this liveliness like fresh-caught fish along with that distinct fragrant quality only aged sashimi has, haha.

After a few light rounds of sashimi and drinks, the flounder sesame-oil gimbap (seaweed rice roll) came out! Ahhhh, taking fresh flounder, sesame oil, chogochujang (vinegared chili paste), seaweed, and a scoop of rice all together — this is heaven,, the combo of sweet-and-salty plus nuttiness is the best ㅠㅠ But you know all of this only works if the sashimi itself is really fresh and tasty, right!? Daegang really pays attention to the freshness of the fish, so it was truly delicious eating it here haha.

Now that we've ordered it all, it's quite a spread, haha. Actually we also ordered grilled chicken and fried eggplant on top of this, but sadly I can't find the photos of those dishes anywhere ㅠㅠ Since I'm still a picky-eater pregnant lady, there isn't much I can eat, so I ordered my all-time favorite, the potato pancake, too!

Why is Daegang so good at potato pancake too,, ㅠㅠ It's crispy, nutty, and even has cheese powder sprinkled on it so you get that salty edge too — an amazing taste,, I honestly wanted to learn their secret to that crispiness haha.

A completely satisfying patio night at Daegang, the outdoor bar in Songni-dan-gil. Honestly, if you come here on a date or with someone you're seeing, it's hard for things not to go well! The vibe is unbeatable and the food is so good that one drink just keeps leading to another haha. If you're looking for an outdoor bar or aged sashimi spot around here, come to Daegang!
