Seongsu brunch restaurant 11am open run for rosé pasta: Seongsu Darak
In short
Seongsu Darak is a Western-style brunch restaurant on the 2nd floor of 20 Ttukseom-ro 9-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, a short walk from Seongsu Station. Before a day of popups and shopping, the writer arrived for the 11am opening on a weekday and ordered Darak rosé pasta, spicy crab risotto, katsu sando and pineapple Darak ade, with a line of about 20 people forming by 11:25am. Seongsu Darak has no break time, so it works at any hour, and the rosé pasta with the spicy crab risotto was the best pairing.

Why Seongsu Darak for lunch before the popup?
Seongsu Darak is a Western-style brunch restaurant on the 2nd floor of 20 Ttukseom-ro 9-gil, near Seongsu Station. It's a Western brunch spot worth stopping by when visiting popups in Seongsu, and I finally arrived at this hot Seongsu-dong spot.

I headed out a bit early again this time to look around the Seongsu popups and do some shopping. Since I made it all the way to Seongsu, I had to eat something good too!

For lunch today I picked Seongsu Darak! It's so famous in Seongsu-dong that I was braced for a wait, so I made a point of moving early and pulled off the opening rush successfully. At 11:10am there was no one around, but by 11:25 people suddenly appeared from everywhere as if they'd been waiting for the clock to strike, and a line of about 20 formed, haha.
Getting in before the crowd hit meant it was noticeably relaxed, which was great. If you've got popup or shopping plans in Seongsu, starting with an opening rush at Seongsu Darak isn't a bad way to plan your route.

Seongsu Darak wait times and what the two floors look like
Most restaurants near Seongsu Station have a break time, but Seongsu Darak doesn't, so it's really convenient to visit without worrying about the clock. Watch your step on the stairs going up or down, and mind your head when you push the door open to enter!!
It felt like climbing up to an attic — the interior layout of Seongsu Darak was distinctive. It gave me the feeling of stepping back into a memory.
On weekdays around lunchtime in Seongsu-dong, office workers pour out of nearby buildings around 12:30. I'd recommend visiting early, or after 2pm instead~~

The restroom is on the 3rd floor, and while there are tables for larger groups, most seats are for two — which makes sense since it's clearly a date spot~~!

If I'd lined up a little earlier I could've gotten a window seat, ugh. Still, sitting inside the great atmosphere of Seongsu Darak with delicious food to look forward to had my mood way up~~
The Seongsu Darak menu and how to order

Water was self-serve~~

A menu lineup that's perfect for someone who can't decide. Too many options make it hard to choose, but this felt like just the right number.

After choosing the menu, they told us to ring the bell, so I shook it!!
ORDER — Darak Rosé Pasta / Spicy Crab Risotto / Katsu Sando / Pineapple Darak Ade

Darak ade (pineapple)

The Darak ade came out first. The pineapple-shaped glass was unusual and cute. The pineapple's sweet-tart flavor really came through, with fruit flesh at the bottom to chew on — a great drink for keeping your palate fresh through the meal.

Darak rosé pasta: a rosé you mix with fresh cream yourself
With the Darak Rosé Pasta, since it's called a rosé pasta I expected the usual rosé color, so I thought it had come out wrong at first — turns out the unusual part is that you mix in the cream topping yourself~~

It looked appetizing from the start, and the sauce was smooth and thick with the signature savory flavor of rosé pasta really coming through. The tomato's tanginess and the creaminess balanced out nicely, so it wasn't as heavy as I expected, and the sauce clung well to the noodles all the way to the last bite. This was the dish I enjoyed most!!

Spicy crab risotto: the best match for the rosé pasta
The spicy crab risotto that I kept reaching for without noticing. Personally, the dish that paired best with the rosé pasta was this spicy crab risotto. While the rosé pasta is smooth and savory, the risotto brings a bit of spice that snaps your palate back to life in between bites.
You can taste the crab's umami, and the sauce and rice blend together so well that one spoonful just leads to another! It's a great combo to order alongside anything creamy or rosé-based if you find those a little too rich on their own.

Katsu sando: a thick pork tenderloin cutlet sandwich
The katsu sando, with its appealing thick cutlet. This katsu sando is the image that comes to mind whenever I think of Seongsu Darak. Katsu sando was actually a dish I only learned about when this place opened. At home I sometimes make the kids what I call a pork cutlet sandwich, but a chef's katsu sando is really on another level.
The bread was incredibly soft and moist, and inside, the whole tenderloin katsu was evenly cooked and tender too, which made it delicious. On top of that, the tangy, fresh sauce that came with it cut all the richness — zero heaviness!@@

It was also great for picking at between bites of pasta or risotto. It's a good option to add as a side to share when eating pasta alone feels like not quite enough, or when you're dining with several people.

What to order on a first visit to Seongsu Darak
If it's your first time eating at Seongsu Darak, I'd personally recommend the combo of Darak Rosé Pasta and Spicy Crab Risotto. Alternating between the smooth, savory rosé and the slightly spicy risotto worked really well together, and adding the katsu sando made for a pretty filling meal. The prices aren't too high, and this was the best combination for eating well without overspending~
On weekends, Seongsu-dong gets packed with people from popup stores to cafés to restaurants, right? This time, because I moved a bit early on a weekday, I managed the opening rush at Seongsu Darak successfully, and after a filling lunch I could enjoy popups and shopping at ease.
If you've got popup or shopping plans in Seongsu-dong, it might be worth moving a bit earlier and trying an opening rush at Seongsu Darak too. After a delicious lunch and wandering the alleys of Seongsu-dong, this ended up being a day where I properly ate, saw, and shopped my way through Seongsu.
