Sunday chicken stew with old-style pork cutlet in Cheonan: Sottture
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a chicken stew (dakdoritang) restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, where one signature dish is simmered in a cauldron lid at the table. On a Sunday evening return visit, the order was a whole chicken for two to three people at 35,000 won plus a side of old-style pork cutlet, with self-serve banchan, free broth refills and a cone ice cream for dessert. The broth grows richer as it reduces, portions are generous, and leftovers were packed to go — an easy repeat visit.

I suddenly had a craving for dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew), so I went back to Sottture Dakdoritang in Seongjeong-dong! I visited once before and it was so good that I'm writing this revisit review,,!!
Where is Sottture Dakdoritang in Cheonan, and what are the hours?
Sottture Dakdoritang is located at 626-6 Seongjeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam, and it's open daily from 11am to 11pm. There's a break time from 3-4pm, last order is at 10pm, and there's no break time on weekends.

They're currently running a ₩5,000 discount event for lunch hours (11:00-14:00) and takeout orders. Fitting for a place that cooks its dakdoritang in a cauldron lid, there's a cauldron lid out front that catches your eye haha (not a real one, of course!! haha)

There's a dedicated parking lot right next door, so it was convenient to visit by car too.
Inside Sottture on a Sunday evening: seating and the self-serve bar
The inside of Sottture Dakdoritang has plenty of tables spaced out generously, making it a comfortable place to eat.

Even though it was Sunday evening, there were so many people,,!! It seemed popular with families and couples alike. It really has that local favorite vibe!

You can grab basic banchan (side dishes) from the self-serve bar, and the salad loaded with mayonnaise neutralizes the spiciness of the dakbokkeumtang so well that I always go back for a second helping.
How to order: kiosk at your table

You can order easily right at your table using the kiosk.

They have a single dakdoritang menu, but you can choose the whole chicken (2-3 servings) or one-and-a-half chicken (3-4 servings) depending on your group size. Extra menu items included flat mandu, potato pancake, rolled omelet, old-style pork cutlet, ramen noodles, self-cooked fried rice, and rice.
Whole chicken stew for 35,000 won — is it enough for two?

The whole chicken (2-3 servings) is ₩35,000, and the portion is generous enough even for two! You can pack up leftovers, and I always do!! (That's how much food there is,,!)

Basic banchan included pickled onion, pickled cucumber, kimchi, and mayo salad.

The fried kimmari (seaweed rolls) and fried mandu we got from a review event were another special treat dipped in the dakbokkeumtang broth,,!

Isn't the egg just too cute?haha (Would be so cute made this way in a lunchbox)
We boiled it hard over high heat for 2-3 minutes, then turned it down to low heat and started eating.

Once we lowered the heat, I went straight for the rice cakes, and they had that spicy-sweet tteokbokki feeling. And above all, the broth's savory depth is incredible,,! (The more it reduces, the tastier it gets,,)

The potatoes were cooked through and fluffy, soaking up all that rich broth, and they were great to eat together.

The chicken was bigger than expected too, and the meat was super tender, so I ate it very happily. But most impressive of all was the broth. Made with domestic chicken and their special sauce that's low-temperature aged, the longer it simmered the deeper the savory flavor became — spicy yet the kind of taste you keep thinking about.

My boyfriend said after having the broth that if he hadn't driven, he'd have ordered a beer right away haha
Old-style pork cutlet, the side dish we added

We also ordered pork cutlet — isn't the portion huge,,!! The owner here is generous with both the main and side dishes,, If you like old-style pork cutlet, I definitely recommend it as a side!!
Dessert: self-serve cone ice cream

There was also self-serve cone ice cream, so we could take care of dessert too!

Who should eat at Sottture Dakdoritang?
- Those who like spicy, rich-broth dakbokkeumtang
- Those looking for a hearty meal in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan
- Those looking for a family outing or gathering spot
- Those looking for a great dakbokkeumtang spot to pair with a drink
- Those who want to properly enjoy fried rice too
It had been a while since my last visit, and as expected, the deep, rich broth was what stuck with me the most. The portions were generous and takeout was available, so it was satisfying down to the last bite. If you're looking for a good dakbokkeumtang spot in Cheonan, I'd recommend giving this place a try.
