Alley-side seating for garlic gopchang and fried rice: Omokgyo
In short
Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a retro-style grilled gopchang (grilled beef intestine) restaurant tucked in a back alley in Mokdong, Yangcheon, Seoul. Sitting by the open door on a nice day, smoke-free and comfortable, we had the signature garlic gopchang, grilled green onion, and finished with fried rice. Whole garlic cloves stuffed inside the gopchang and a wasabi shiitake side dish were the real kicker.

'Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch,' located in Mokdong.
It's tucked deep in an alley, so there's fun in just finding it, and from the entrance it already has such a distinct retro vibe that my expectations were sky-high before I even walked in.

You know this vibe, right? Like the backdrop of some old-school drama... the kind where office workers go grab a soju after work!
The moment we stepped in, there seemed to be several events going on. A ₩100,000 meal voucher event — jackpot! Give it a shot!
Open-door seating with no smoke, just like sitting at an outdoor tent
The retro indoor hall was there, but on one side, since the weather was nice, they had the doors thrown wide open. So there was barely any smoke and the air was pleasant. We just happened to be about to sit in that exact spot..!

The moment we picked up the menu, the side dishes were already set. They came swooping in like ninjas, setting everything up in a flash, haha, before I'd even sat down. And there was a reason for that.

This place gets absolutely packed on weekends, and yet they proudly guarantee such fast service that they've put it in writing: wait more than an hour and they'll give you a bottle of wine! That's how committed they are to fast service — we can't keep our guests waiting!

Anyway, isn't our spot amazing? On this gorgeous day, it really felt like sitting at an outdoor tent — a closed-off alley, blinds hanging above, and a retro standing sign right beside us. This kind of place would be so nice on a rainy day, especially during the autumn monsoon season!

Even the utility pole is pitching in.

I loved that the utensils came individually wrapped for hygiene. Every little detail like this was on point, haha.

Signature garlic gopchang, starting with a fire-show performance
Not long after we ordered, the signature 'garlic gopchang' arrived.
They put on quite the flashy performance to get rid of any gamey smell, haha — a spectacular fire show.

Drinks are practically mandatory in front of such delicious-looking gopchang, but since we're cutting back on alcohol, we ordered zero-alcohol beer instead.

Ta-da! But even though we ordered zero-alcohol beer, they gave us hutgae (oriental raisin tree) sticks anyway, haha.

Still, this kind of service always gets me 💕

A whole clove of garlic tucked inside the gopchang
We ordered the restaurant's main dish, the grilled garlic gopchang, and it came already grilled to a nice golden brown, so we didn't have to cook it ourselves — very easy to eat.

When I picked up a piece of gopchang, it wasn't just filled with fat inside — there was a whole clove of garlic tucked in there! The moment you bite in, the sharp, sweet flavor of the garlic blends with the savoriness of the gopchang, with zero gamey smell and an incredible texture.

The grilled green onion, which acts as the kicker, is really a special treat. It cuts right through the richness of the gopchang so you never get tired of eating, and it just keeps going down 👍💕

A sip of zero-alcohol beer clears the palate right up.

Finishing with fried rice, and that wasabi shiitake side dish
Even after eating your fill of gopchang, you know there's always room for fried rice, right? At the end, we made sure to add fried rice. The savoriness of the gopchang fat mixed with the spiciness of the special sauce, and we scraped the pan clean to the very bottom.
Oh, and honestly the thing I loved most was this side dish — shiitake mushrooms tossed in soy sauce and wasabi. That was truly the kicker...

Craftsmanship written right on the menu
What stood out was that the menu had a whole explanation about Omokgyo Gopchang and how to enjoy the food best. I think this is exactly what craftsmanship looks like — the philosophy, pride, and dedication that come from the owner's own research.

On display in a corner of the restaurant were a completion certificate and plaque from Yonsei University's food service industry program, which really showed the owner's passion for the food business. 👍 Knowing this place is run with steady, dedicated research made me trust both the taste and the service completely.
