Garlic gopchang and mixed gopchang date near Omokgyo Station

In short

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a gopchang (grilled beef tripe) restaurant in the alley by Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station in Yangcheon, Seoul. The writer ordered the traditional handmade garlic gopchang and mixed gopchang, both grilled tableside by staff, plus the signature Omokgyo fried rice. No gaminess, plenty of gop (the fatty tripe lining), and the green onion kimchi made with the owner's parents' homegrown chili flakes stole the show.

Gopchang grilling on the griddle at Omokgyo Gopchang

I went to a dermatologist in Mokdong after a while and ended up eating amazing gopchang (grilled beef tripe) afterward! Gopchang places are honestly hard to pick well, but Omokgyo Gopchang had no gaminess and plenty of gop (the fatty tripe lining) packed in — even the garlic gopchang was great. If you're looking for a good spot in Omokgyo or a team dinner place, please read this!

Omokgyo Gopchang is close to Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station. There's no on-site parking, so you'd need to use the nearby Mokdong public parking lot or the E-mart Mokdong lot — I'd recommend coming by public transit instead!

Omokgyo Gopchang sign in the alley near Omokgyo Station

I'd never been down this alley before, and there was Omokgyo Gopchang, giving off the most delicious smell!! With its flashy sign, it's easy to find from Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station.

Just like the sign says, these people are true masters of garlic gopchang and green onion kimchi...

Sundubu-jjigae, basic side dishes, and the secret sauce

Here's the sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew). The seasoning is just right — delicious. Take a spoonful while eating gopchang and it cuts through the richness with its spicy kick.

The basic side dishes. From green onion kimchi to chive kimchi, everything's good, but I especially love a good green onion kimchi and this place nailed it — I refilled it myself 🤭 When you're eating gopchang, having great green onion kimchi on the side is a must!!!

Omokgyo Gopchang's secret dipping sauce

And this sauce on the left is genuinely delicious. They said it's Omokgyo Gopchang's own secret sauce! The owner recommended it too, so I dipped everything — gopchang, makchang, daechang — into it!!!!!

Garlic gopchang vs mixed gopchang: what's the difference?

I checked the reviews and saw a lot of people ordering the garlic gopchang, so I got one of each: traditional handmade garlic gopchang for ₩28,900, and mixed gopchang for ₩27,900. I wondered what the difference even was — turns out garlic gopchang literally has garlic stuffed inside the tripe...? What a genius owner...

They put on a fire show for us 🔥🔥🔥

The garlic gopchang is limited to 30 servings a day, so definitely start with that one first‼️

Garlic gopchang on the griddle topped with green onion kimchi

Such a nice touch, topping it with green onion kimchi. I wondered why the green onion kimchi tasted so good — turns out the owner's parents grow it themselves ㅠㅠㅠ!!!

(※ Handmade green onion kimchi — This kimchi is made and aged in-house using premium first-grade chili flakes grown by the owner's parents. It follows the mother's original recipe from Hongseong, and grilling it together with gopchang doubles the harmony of flavors.)

Mixed gopchang platter with gopchang, makchang, daechang, heart, and beehive tripe

The mixed gopchang comes with gopchang, makchang, daechang, heart, and beehive tripe, plus a generous pile of bean sprouts, green onion, garlic, mushroom, potato, chives, and green onion kimchi. With whole garlic cloves and all those vegetables on top, it's rich but never greasy.

We tried to clink our glasses in a heart shape but the glass sizes didn't match ㅋㅅㅋ;;

You know you're supposed to eat the heart first when having mixed grilled offal, right. Here's the first piece of heart, sitting in the little cup of oil.

Delicious gopchang... nom nom..

The staff grilled it for us so we could just relax and eat. They also recommended great side dish combos and were super kind..ㅎㅅㅎ

You must eat it with the green onion kimchi.. it's a promise

Finishing with the signature Omokgyo fried rice

We ordered the signature Omokgyo fried rice for an extra ₩6,900. Can't skip fried rice as the grand finale. I was expecting them to fry it right on the gopchang griddle, but it actually comes out freshly made instead! Let the egg yolk cook for 2–3 minutes, then mix it all up and it's done.

Exactly as good as it looks in the photo — seriously tasty fried rice. Some places let you down on the fried rice after all that gopchang, but here it's excellent too.. eek

Self-photo booth, hair ties, and fabric spray

They also had a self-photo booth ㅋㅅㅋ so on our rare weekday date, we used it. Even the little sunglasses prop up there is such a cute detail ㅋㅅㅋ

They also have hair ties and fabric deodorizing spray. Tie your hair up before eating, then spray yourself down before you head out — done!

The kind owner even gave us hovenia (heotgae) sticks on the way out. From the taste to the service, everything about Omokgyo Gopchang was satisfying! If you're hunting for a good restaurant around Omokgyo, definitely pay it a visit.
